Solid weekend of wrenching

1)Helicoils installed by jeremy in the cylinder head : to fix the leaky gasket
2)oil return line shortened
3)exhaust hooked up
4) exhaust manifold flange trued up
5)Front radiator support removed.
6) sanding and primer of hood- I hope to paint it after some more sanding today.

More importantly, we started the car with the new exhaust manifold on, and took some temperature readings at the heatshield near the timing belt. We were pleased with the exhaust note of the car as well.
The skin temperature of the manifold in that area was 260 degrees, while the cover brought the temp down to the 150s, so more than a 100 degree drop in temperatures.

Another interesting note, was the EGT in number 1 was around 840 degrees, while the skin temperature of the manifold was in the 530 range. quite the difference.

Unfortunately we have to pull the whole turbo assembly back off to try and fix a small leak at the turbine housing.

thank you for looking

Last night I just couldn't sleep, so I decided to make something out of aluminum. A simple coolant overflow tank. Here are the beginning of the welds

Image

Image

The tank is about 8.5 inches tall with a 3 inch diameter. Aluminum has always been a little finicky for me to weld

More to come on this small project.

Awesome to see such a unique build come together so quickly, keep up the good work.

thank you for the kind words, glad you are enjoying it

I have been working on my coolant overflow piece, It is almost finished , just a few more bungs to add to the system
A Detail shot of the weld, I seem to have better puddle control on an outside 90 degree joint versus an inside 90 degree joint

and installed in the car

Next up Mike O brien, is paint my hood and louvers

Always making steady progress! Can't wait to see the hood with the louvers mounted.

Last night I got my hood back (thanks M.O.B), and began the riveting process... There were 36 rivets per panel , which required 3 squeezes of the hand rivet tool per rivet.. pretty mindless work

completed

In conclusion, this turned out how I envisioned it in my mind a few months ago.

now on to the next project.

Lots of little things completed with the car

1) Fixed front bumper and saggin lip,
2) Finished coolant reservoir
3) cleaned fuel cell to remove all the foam material
4) Built front radiator support
5) Alignment because of all the work in the rear end. ( I will not recommend belle tire for alignments, as their knowledge on aftermarket components is limited)

Here is a quick shot that I took of the engine bay over the weekend

Beyond that I have been driving the car around, at approximately 24 psi and 11:0 afr it feels stable and decent. Very linear in power delivery

Next up:
Hope to sand down and paint my colt colt GT side skirts , Install an evo 8 steering wheel, build a breather tank for the valve cover and Crank case, Fix the rear bumper, make new bushings for the shifter assembly and tune the car

see ya later.

I absolutely hate that gold foil crap, but that tube is really close, so beyond a total redesign of the header, I have to find ways to minimize the heat ;)

did some spirited driving with the car yesterday, 10.5s afr up top , boost was at 22 psi, 93 octane, 4 degrees of timing, the car just keeps pulling and pulling, the long tube header has made a huge difference in top end delivery.

Function over form! Can't wait to see this car in action.

4 degrees of timing? You running a stroker?

Total clutch failure, where a few of the fingers have lost tension on the act pressure plate.

The new clutch is a south bend , TMZ set up which has a 2200# pressure plate, with a full face disc, kevlar on one side, with ceramic on the other. I have been driving it now for about 150 miles with great feed back with the clutch.

Also I have installed the Evo 8 steering wheel on the car, and will provide pictures of that shortly, once I can find the plastics for the wheel.

thanks for looking

Let me guess, an ACT failed on you? You'll like the SBC setup for sure.

half of the springs lost tension on the 2600 act pressure plate. It really isn't a big deal, as the clutch had 2 season of abuse with this car, and three season of abuse on another car. So overall it had served its purpose.

The south bend clutch is quite nice, soft pedal feel, and as I continue to break in the disc, it seems to drive and shift a little nicer

Time will tell at the track.
