The 2013 dsm/evo/gtr shootout is finally over... The long sleepless nights, the hustling to get parts in , while maintaining career jobs and work schedules was starting to wear on the team.
It was no different for the colt. A short summary of what transpired from the events in lapeer.
What we thought was a fuel issue, ended up being a fuel filter that crushed itself from the high fuel pressures that the two 255 walboro pumps were pushing. So I wasted $250 on some new pumps and had them replaced.
Next the rear struts were in poor shape, so jeremy replaced those with some off the shelf autozone specials.
Thanks to andy he donated some decent tires and wheels for the shootout, that dropped the weight down to 37 ibs a corner, from the 42 ibs per corner.
Then there was the whole tuning part of the car, jeremy and i hammered it out on friday morning ( just prior to leaving for the shootout). The car for some reason, has very inconsistent boost pressure, i.e it goes from a spike of 31psi down to gate pressure , so we chased, boost leak tests, to placing a bigger intake to feed the turbo amongst other things. So pretty typical for the shootout preparations, run around with your head cut off .
At the shootout, 1st pass out of the gate, jeremy hits an 11.94 @ 116 I think .. Our crew was absolutely over joyed, with how well this car takes to timing. and boost , this was with a 1.9 sixty foot as well. As the day progressed, he ran a couple of low 12s, and then finally finished off the event with a 11.8x @ 119. We are pretty happy with this little car, as it came to do work. More importantly, it represents our team quite well, as it has been worked on by every single person in our club. and that I feel is more important than anything else, a bunch of enthusiasts having a good time and enjoying our hobby.
The only shot I have of the car, and a poor one at that
Thanks for reading- stay tuned for more.
