I think I can only fit in Street 32. Quick 32 will be against the bigger folks 7-8 sec cars.
Honestly It might be more fun to run in the 11.50 class. As they allow juice ;)

This weekend was a tough one, almost 20 plus hours of fabrication of bars for the installation of a 10-pt Rollcage.
I am using 1 5/8" chromoly tubing for the majority of the bars.

At first I wanted to go behind the dash for the A pillars, it would be very challenging to keep the heat in the car. Something that I was not willing to do, Thus the bars, come in front of the dash. These are as tight as we could make them, and In my opinion look pretty cool. The down angle that come to the floor is not very severe, and I think it will be plenty strong with the rest of the bars in there if an unfortunate event were to occur.

The main goals for the cage, were to have it as tight as possible to the lines of the car, yet be noticeable enough to make it look quite obnoxious as well .. you know the whole "WTF" Factor :) .

The A-pillar bars Which were a pain the math out. These were a little over 72 inches long, with multiple bends, including off-plane bends. The fun part was mirroring one side to the next.

Main hoop with cleanup. Notice, how it is basically a square, this was done intentionally for a little extra clearance, for the swing outs and regular seat belts. Plus it allows for the A-Pillar bar to be quite high up on the hoop

This header bar took over 3 hours to build as the notches had a bunch of compound angles in them. This was a total bitch of a bar, because the A-pillar bars were moving away from each other, plus there were bends in the Header bar too which further complicated the angle. At one point thought it was a total loss, but we were able to make it work. With some math-this notched up really well.

And what it looks like with the hoop and A-pillars tacked in. This will give a firm foundation for all the other bars to attach to.

So all the bars have been bent up, including the door sill bars, swing outs and rears. I do have to notch all this stuff which takes quite a bit of time and then final weld everything in .Probably another 30 hours more to go before it is all said and done. The weight of chromoly bar and steel plate added to the car is just over 72 pounds. Enjoy

looks great man.. but I hope u never have to remove that dash lol.. looks like its stuck in there permanently now..

also the next to last pic with the welding helmet on the fuel cell.. at first glance it looks like a drive shaft tunnel (if u look at the top of it first and not the strap).

Awesome work for sure! I got a headache trying to bend some 3/16" brake line a few months ago so I can only imagine how much of a pain this was.

Street 32 had 9-10 second cars in it, its one of the new classes from last year. Supposed to be a class between Quick 32 and Eliminator.

thanks Aaron, I think I will just have to join you in the street 32 class. I got knocked out of it last year in second round, Hopefully I can do better this year.

Added one of the "D" bars last night, and finished welding it up this morning before work. My goal is to do at least one bar per night this week, so that I can get this cage completed by the weekend.

Is it a bad idea to tie in the seat to the main cage?

I never like the idea of a seatbelt being tied back to something, whereby the seat may change positions in a collision.

Lots of talk about spinal compression when guys discussed the ThreeSpeed GVR4 seat belt harness bar that located at the upper seat belt tether/bolts. Some cages run the belts to the bar in the back seat, but I am assuming the seat was then tied in?

Curious ....

I don't think it is a bad idea to tie a seat into a cage. There are some road race/Rally cars, that have longitudinal and transverse bars on the bottom of the cage. The seats are normally tied into those. If I was building a 25.1 cage (7.50 drag cage) . These bars would need to be placed to tie the bottom of the cage. My take on things are that you are adding a lot of rigidity with the cage, which translates to, it being a part of the chassis. So if there was a collision, the seat/ area contained with the cage, would move at a similar rate to the cage itself.

With this colt, the front is stiffened, due to the two bars, that attach to the frame rail, to hold the motor in place. The rear has bars to hold the rear end assembly. Prior to the cage, the center of the car was basically like jello. It is amazing to see how soft these chassis really are. I.e its almost like the car was twisting about itself, like you would when you are twisting a towel.

Spinal compression is a bad thing when it comes to seat belts. I shall be using harnesses, that tie, to the main hoop harness bar (horizontal bar behind seat). I have placed it a few inches lower than my shoulder ( within the rules of regulation from NHRA). This will allow me to have some flexibility , with lowering the seat, if I want to, while keeping it within the angle of range, to minimize spinal compression, if an unfortunate event were to occur.

Last night I f-ed up one of my rear bars, ( basically notched it in the wrong place at too severe of an angle, rendering the bar useless... I m pissed, maybe I can salvage it and make a strut tower bar or something. At almost $0.80 per inch, I can't afford to make mistakes and waste material.

however I did finish up the other "d" bar.. check it out
