Question, I'm a little lost here, Does the elantra control arm helps to eliminate the camber problem when you install the expo knuckles with brakes? Or you still need to modify the shock hole?

Yes and yes. They put the knuckle out a little farther but you still need to modify the upper mount hole on the strut.

Do you have to modify the shock hole, if you have the camber plates ?

It is the dsm shootout week and what an insane last few days it has been.

First up is transmission time for the colt. Spent almost 12 hours at TRE on friday getting the trans squared away.

Image

Oh shinny parts
Image

What more can I say about TRE transmissions that I have not already said. Jon ripple has been building trannies for me for MANY years and this trans was no exception to quality .

Each gear is beautifully detailed on the root and shoulder of each and every tooth of the gear. The fillets and bevels are machined to the exact tolerance that you need to shift. This is a company that treats your transmission like it is royalty, Not to mention the utmost level of care and detail. The tranny has evo 3 gear sets, a welded center differential, so machined shift rails and stout shift forks as well as some sweet high friction double synchros.

Scott helped me out getting this work of art into my car on saturday, as it was indeed crunch time. Now the colt has some bling in the engine bay, nothing like a brand new trans.
Image

Sunday was no fun putting this tcase in, as I got wedged under the car, while lifting the tcase into place, I ended up tweaking my shoudler a little, It is definitely a little tender and I hope that I didn't screw anything up in there.

I also started on the bracket for my corbeau seat
Image

Tig weld bead with mild steel. Getting better I think
Image

installed in the car
Image

Next I scoured some kumho wider tires, these are 225 50 16s should give me a little better traction than the all seasons. I had to roll the rear fenders to make these fit.
Image

My sparco hood pins were starting to fail, so I installed these flush mounted hood pins that are a little more captive.
Image

So loads of stuff done and still plenty of stuff left to do .

5 days and counting. See you at the dsm shootout this weekend.

The 2014 dsm/evo/gtr shootout was an amazing event. This year we decided to leave on a saturday morning, which was significantly more relaxed. After making our way down to ohio and to the track, we settled in at Norwalk in an effort to start making some passes..

First pass of the trailer resulted in a 11.90 at 122. The density altitude on saturday was horrible to say the least, and in normal norwalk fashion it progressively got worse over the weekend. I initially was going to compete in Bracket 1 Class, as that was the only class that the car fit in-- So moving on to the second pass. I left the line well on that pass and since I was using Q16 for fuel, I had to make some adjustments. This resulted in the cars best MPh to date of 127.6 mph.
Image

Now I will say that Q16 fuel is very fincky.. it likes being a little on the leaner side. something that I realized until the end of the weekend.

Moving on To sunday .. I must thank brent who decided to give me his passenger seat so that I could run in the Street eliminator class. My next two runs resulted in a 11.53 and then a 11.51 both were in the 125 to 126 mph range. The car was extremely consistant through out the weekend.

I Was able to qualify for the ladder as they were taking 32 cars. I was in the 28th spot where my opponent was number 6 qualifer. He caught me sleeping at the tree ( even though I was playing bulb games with him) , 30 psi of boost was too much for the street tires on the launch which caused me to run a poor 11.90 at 124 causing me to be eliminated in the first round.

Over all it was a great shootout, Lots of great conversations, catching up with old friends, making a few new ones and driving the car on and off the trailer is a bonus too.
So in summation the colt ran a personal new best of 11.31 @ 125 with a 1.77 sixty foot.
here is the slip
Image

thanks for looking and more to come as I upgrade some of the components in the car.
cheers.

I think I like the car better with a black front bumper. Can't wait to show you what I have for this summer. We need to set up a meet.

I got the magnus on the head yesterday... damn there is very little room to get a throttle body to clear the master cylinder

Basically I had to install a thinner brake booster and a 2g Master cylinder, while redoing some of the brake lines to the master cylinder.

Hopefully I can get another 20 -30hp by switching to this manifold. Basically my goal is to hit just under 500hp with 93 octane. wish me luck folks, now I understand why people don't put a magnus V3 on these cars.

Got this Magnus installed. Here are a few tips for those that want to put a big Magnus cast v3 on their colts.
You will need:
1)93 mirage brake booster, thinner one
2)2g turbo master cylinder
3)trim the end of the brake booster rod as much as you can. Attach the turn buckle so that you have adequate amount of throw for the pedal otherwise your master cylinder won't go past the relief point of the master cylinder causing your brakes to never release
4) if you use a stock throttle body you will need an adapter, I used the jmfab bbk adapter
5) I used a tight radius 2.5 bend to make the upper intercooler portion
6) use a 1g brake fluid reservoir
On to the pictures

I was able to bring the afrs back down to a reasonable level of 11.2 ish, what was interesting was that I could raise the timing values by a couple of degrees without seeing knock. This could probably be attributed to equivalent airflow to each cylinder, and overall efficiency versus the 1G manifold. With the old manifold on 93 octane, I couldn't go any higher than 10 degrees of timing, now I am at 12 degrees (7000rpm). Also to add injector duty cycles are somewhere around 75% with the magnus, compared to about 70% with the 1g manifold. Hopefully this information will benefit others out there.

So to recap 11.2 afr ,12 degrees, 29psi-30psi, 93 octane, weight 2620( includes me 170ibs)

Image

Overall gains of approximately 33hp and 40tq. E85 coming soon !! Enjoy

Also I got all my chromoly for the 10 pt cage that is going in this weekend :) wish me luck
