Looking good man, glad the mount made it there safely. Keep us updated.

Here is the Intercooler Front Mount setup. I bought it from ebay a long time ago. I know its small but I dont plan on going over stock power for about a year. Plus it already spins the wheels enough!

For all the intake plumbing I used parts from a US Galant VR4. I also changed the Valvecover and cleaned up a bit. This is how it looks Today

If you didnt notice, Im using a DSM Radiator and the waterneck is from a 1.8 1G DSM. It points straight forward.

You may or may not have problems with that rad setup. I know the dsm rad didn't work very well in my colt. The filler cap should be the highest point of the system ideally. I have a 2000 gtx (galant) rad in my colt, the dsm rad just wasn't quite cutting it on the +30 days

Thats a good point, I read this somewhere else too, Anyone care to elaborate on why that is?, For filling purposes? eliminating air bubbles?

Eventually I am going to have the original radiator repaired and reinstalled. The origininal rad did have the cap built into it so it was the highest point.

Great work man and thanks for sharing with all of us. I've been in the DSM/CSM community and on some of the forums for 10 years and haven't seen the details of this swap documented like this. Truly a great resource to help get past the Excel-specific hurdles in this swap.

If you figure out what rear suspension springs/shocks from another vehicle will work with the stock setup or what can be done to upgrade it otherwise you'll have covered it all. I'll be sure to post if something I try works even tolerably :)

Tom

slowdsm from this site mentioned to me about using a solid rear Posi axle from a Turbo Thunderbird. If I ever go this route I would probably do a full 4 link setup, something to that affect. Im not sure If I would ever have the time to do the AWD on this car. But that would be a first right? AWD Hyundai Excel, I know theres a AWD tiburon out there and an Accent.

Hopefully someone can use this info.

Axles.

Drivers axle is currently the original Excel Axle. I am gonna try and install a DSM Halfshaft setup pretty soon.
For the Passenger side short axle I used a turbo C50 Colt ale. I found it at BAP Import parts in Arizona,(Thanks Ray) Its Empi Brand Part #'s 80-3019 603177 603223
I wasnt able to take a pic of the axle itself, but it was a whole lot thicker than the Excel axle. I Approve!

Heres a pic of the box and part numbers.

Sorry if I missed it but you're using a 1g dsm turbo tranny correct? If so I would double check that excel axle on the drivers side because the inner axle stub may be shorter on that axle. If this is the case it won't snap into the diff like its supposed to. Pretty much the same way a na csm axle won't work with our swaps.

Your right, It pulls out and leaks too, I am going to try the DSM Combo, If that is too long then it might take me a while to source a CSM halfshaft for DSM/CSM Combo.

On another note, I may be buying a 89 Colt GT today!

Congrats on the new addition to the family. If I remember right the passenger side is a little beat though... right? Nothing a new fender and little time with some blocks and a hammer can't fix though.

Yea, I have a local friend who has some parts for me. Once I start working on reconditioning the colt I will start another thread for it.
