Post subject:  My '89 d50 build
I haven't been on here in a while, I figured I'd post up some pics of what I have been working on lately. I bought this truck in January after finding some pretty bad frame rust on my '88. The truck will be sporting the 4g63t, gm th350 trans w/10" converter and a Ford 8.8 rear out of an Explorer. If you guys have any specific questions about the build, please post them up, here are some pics.

What do you do to convert it to efi (ie; the fuel pump)

Where abouts did you score a transmission adapter? I gave up on my D50 too because of rust too, sad to say but the colt is not far behind it either.

I have been keeping an eye out for another talon to swap the stuff into, but a MM/D50 build with the chevy auto tranny would be wicked too. Are the adapter plates readily available?

How much work was it to make the tranny fit in the tunnel?

Not the early ones, I think the 90's were the first models with fuel injection.

From an engineering standpoint, would it make sense that you would now need some better shocks and or leaf springs?
There must be a lot more weight now sprung in the rear end (no homo), and due to those old Mitsu shocks only really being capable of keeping light weight stuff planted to the ground, I hope this isn't too much of a bother when it's up and rolling again.
Any plans for suspension at all 4 corners. :twisted:

Tim, new shocks are already on the back, still gotta get a set for the front. I will most likely run some cheap traction bars at first to keep it from wrapping the leafs. The adapter plate on this truck is from Bill Hincher. Wiring up the carbed trucks for efi is pretty easy, you treat the 4g63 harness as a separate syetem and only supply it what it needs from the truck.

All you need is 4 wires to fire up a DSM harness, ground, constant power, key on power and to kick on the fuel pump :wink: Like you said it's very simple, I used a DSM harness on my hyundai swap so I know first hand :D

Well I have this same truck at my garage that I'm putting a rebuild motor in for my buddy, so next weekend I'll take some pics to show you guys. :wink:

Thanks Tom, I definately remember Eric's truck, that is the truck that inspired me years ago to start this project. I was wondering who had the truck now.

I pulled the bed off the other day to finish modifying for the cell install, here are a few pics:
