I picked this radiator up on saturday to solve my clearance issues with my manifold(fruit and banana colt engine bay!)

Image

Got it for $20, couldn't beat the price!

There should be a huge update coming today, as I'm expecting my packages from JNZ, and Jay Racing!

March 30th, 2010

Hello there,
Today I was expecting my packages from JNZtuning, and Jay Racing. I only got the package from JNZ, apparently my address was wrong on my package from Jay Racing, I should be getting that tomorrow. Small order from JNZ, but important parts..

FIC Injector Seal Kit.
Image

OEM Forward Facing OFH.
Image

Installed the Seal Kit, then put the injectors in the fuel rail, bolted that down to the head.

After that I used a 1g intake manifold gasket and took a few pictures to show the port size difference between the 1g and the Colt Gt.
Image
Image

After dicking around for a little bit, I started to get my engine ready to put up on the engine stand. Which was occupied by a 6 bolt 2.0 at the time, so I had to remove that first.
Image

Clutch looks almost brand new, pressure plate is a different story....
There are some hot spots on the pressure plate, but I'm not worried about it, not even going to get it resurfaced before I put it back in. As soon as this clutch goes I'll be seeking a 2.0 trans/lightweight flywheel/2600 or equal setup.
Image
Image
Image
I often have trouble taking flywheel bolts off, So Bob and I made this out of bar stock, just drilled two holes in it, and bolt it up to the flywheel with pressure plate bolts. Works great, I didn't struggle with one bolt or even damage a bolt with this method.
Image

With all that business taken care of, it was time to put the engine up on the stand.
Image
Image

Here's a shot of my 2.0l, 1.6 transmission, and in the wagon you can see another 2.0l block
Image

Oh I think I found out the reason the 11b was blown...
Image
Huge restriction, probably caused the oil to back up instead of draining properly and blew the seals .

Another update whenever I get the chance to work on it as always. Hopefully Thursday I will get a lot done.

Just a question, but if you have a few 2.0's laying around why dont you swap in one of them? Either way nice build and great quality! Keep the updates rollin.

Too much torque, I've talked to a few members on dsmlink that went 2.0 on their colts and it just wasn't as much fun to drive as the 1.6.

Also, Jared is running 10's on a budget build, Why go 2.0 if that's possible?

Thanks for the compliment though.

April 1st, 2010

So yesterday and today I got a pretty good amount done, I'll let most of the pictures do the talking and explain a little here and there.

I got my Jay Racing order in finally.

Cat Treats and Bosch 040 intank pump.

Damn, I'm cross eyed

Jay Racing alternator relocation kit!
Image
Bobby and I noticed the baffle of my valve cover was filled with gunk, build up from over the years so bobby drilled the rivots out and dropped the baffle to clean it up

I'm undecided yet if I'm going to have John weld the baffle back in, or just leave it out and run a good catch can system.

After all this I installed the Jay Racing Alternator Relocation Kit.
This only added to the "Murphy's Law" theory that goes with the car.
1. I had to inlarge the bore of the alternator bolt hole for the alternator mounting bracket, my bolt was either slightly bent, or aftermarket, not sure.
2. This kit works for the 4g61, but it's designed around the 4g63, which has a slightly taller deck height. I need a shorter belt then what is included with the kit. The kit included a 42" 4 rib belt. I maxed out the tensioner all the way and it bottomed out on the alternator anyways. The belt still had a lot of slack. So I went to autozone and purchased a 41" 4 rib belt which was just too short even with the tension brought all the way in. I'm still trying to locate a 41.5" belt Sigh.

After all that jazz I installed the arp headstuds, fun stuff.
Image
Image
Image

All torqued down
Image
Image

I dropped the oilpan, checked the rod bearings for slop, cleaned up the surface ect ect.
Image

I reinstalled the oilpan using allen head bolts, looks really good IMO. I didn't get pictures of this I will tomorrow or something.

After that, I dropped the gas tank. Luckily for my the previous owner replaced the original gas tank with a brand new unit, and I'm assuming sending unit as well by the condition it was in.
Image
Image

That's about all I had time for today. I'll be back at it on saturday, going to install the Bosch, and mount the tank back up. One step closer!

Thanks for looking.

I just searched the internet for about an hour to find out there really is no 41.5" 4 rib belts. There's 41.3", and 41.8" I'm going to go with the 41.3" and see what that does for me, Apparently it's for a 2007 Toyota Camry with a 2.4L engine lol. What kind of mutt am I breading here?

I would weld the baffle in especially for the breather system because the baffle prevents oil from going out the breather ports on the valve cover. I would still run a really good evac setup.

I'm undecided yet. If I don't put the baffle in I'll run a new fitting where the pcv valve goes, and use the exisiting 90*outlet above the waterneck, run those two hoses into a y fitting, and that into a catch can. If it fills up to fast I'll start seeking a new valve cover.

Then again I might just tack this baffle back into place and see how that works.

Good looking project dude! That revshift manifold looks awesome, how much would that set one back?
A suggestion if you ever want to ditch that $20 radiator, an AFCO 80107N radiator (available from Summit) will fit perfectly under your core support, which clears up alot of room up front. There is no provision for a radiator cap, easily solved by running a DSM thermostat housing. I've been running one for a few months now and temp is rock solid.

Heres a pic (before it was bolted down, just sitting on the bottom support)

Holy shit, I love that radiator, I'll have to look into getting one of those once I free up some funds!

I paid somewhere around $550 for my manifold, o2 eliminator/downpipe, aluminum battery box, and a few other things here and there. He sponsors my car, and I make the decals for his business so that's most of the reason I got such a good deal. I know he wants to sell the manifolds for $600 alone on his website, thats with dsm or t3/t4 flange, either or doesn't matter.

Didn't do much this weekend, I sold a shortblock for $500. That is going directly do the Colt fund to help speed things up a little bit:).

Anyways, I headed over to REVSHIFT on saturday and we finally added the wastegate provision for my manifold. Was more a PITA than I thought, but it came out great.

Other than that the only other progress I made involved getting *hopefully* the correct belt for my alternator relocation kit.

I'll have more this week. Hoping to get my motor mounts done and set the engine back in the car :).
