I'm sure a na crank will be fine on a 7 bolt. The only difference is the pin for the flywheel as far as I know. Couldn't they just polish it lightly to remove the rust and not take off any material?

What bearings did you use? When I rebuilt my 7 bolt turbo engine each bearing had a specific # stamped on it and they all had different clearances. It was a nightmare to be honest. Be sure to plastigage everything!

I am going to take it back to them with the other crank and see what they can do. Hopefully they will be cool about it and fix their mess up.

From what I could tell they were not individually marked and all .10. I will measure everything to make sure.

Oh OK, I forgot that you mentioned they cut it. Mine was in good shape so I just ordered new bearings from Mitsu.

What part of the crank is "rusted solid"? If the journals are in good shape but yet the motor doesn't rotate it is possible that the block, crank or girdle is warped preventing it to rotate.

The crank issue has been sorted out. They cleaned up the spare we had and it would work with stock bearings. So I ordered a new set of bearings and installed that crank last night.

Now to a whole new issue. When we tried torquing down the rod bolts they wouldn't make it to 36ft lbs like the book says. After looking at them they had ALL stretched (got skinny in the middle and the nut wouldn't tighten all the way down).

We tried to tighten one down from another 4g63 piston we were never going to use that looked like it wasn't stretched out. When it his 32ft lbs it snapped.

Can anyone who has built one of these quote from their experience? I know what the book says but the bolts are telling a different story. Trying to decide if I should get a set of stock replacements or ARP.

What kind of torque wrench are you using?

What manual are you using? The torque for a 7 bolt engine is a lot less than the 6 bolt specs because the manual states that you tighten it an additional 90 degrees after it has been torqued to spec. I told you the 7 bolts were a PITA. :P

They also use torque to yield fasteners, if a nut doesn't thread down on them without binding then they are stretched and need to be replaced. If you replace the rod bolts I believe they need to be honed out by a machine shop.

The manual I have shows 36-38ft lbs for the 4g63. It shows 14-15 +90* turn for the 4g15.

I am going to order a new set of ARP and be done with it.

Those specs are for a 6 bolt 4G63, 7 bolts are completely different.

I have a 2" on the car now. I hate it sounds like a Honda. My dad has a 2.5" on his 2.4l and it sounds much deeper. Once I get the turbo installed I am putting 2.5-3" on the car and changing out the muffler.

UPDATE: All the picture links are broken right now after I moved thing into new folders on Photobucket...I will fix that next time I get bored. If you want to find any pictures you can find them at: http://s573.photobucket.com/albums/ss17 ... t%20Stuff/

The transmission was popping out of gear alot and grinding bad. The car had a non turbo transmission so far and I just rebuilt the turbo transmission and bought a new turbo clutch. After installing everything we couldnt get the engine to sit normal. It was really low on the passenger side. While trying to find out what was wrong with the new tranny mount we had never used I realized the front mount was ripped in half. It had 1/4" of metal holding the brace on and the rest was gone. This is due to the bad block the car has and the shitty mount it was using.

So we ripped it all out. Bit the bullet. Whipped out the air tools and had it down to a short block in a few hours. This morning we reassembled most of the new parts. Should be back together this weekend.
