Just what I thought, I would check the other pistons as well

not much of a update.. still waiting on e-mail if my piston was sent out yet.. in the mean time I had to cut more of the bumper off.. now I need to figure out a kewl way to connect the bottom of it and put a screen in there... also pulled the other 3 pistons and replaced the rings and bearings.. and just like I thought it wasnt rebuilt to long ago.. I think the guy busted the ring lands when he installed the piston in the rebuild and when it started smoking is when the guy sold the car..but cant be 100% sure on that... hopefully I can get the piston next week and should have it running by end of the month.. gonna fix all the small things I skipped on when i was just trying to get the car drivable..

the scratch in the top left bearing was caused by me.. u can see some speckles..but they are embedded into the bearing. but the wear on them look great. ive seen real crappy bearings come out of a 500 mile motor lol...

That's sucks dude. I'm sorry to see that. I suppose there's a bright side to it though, at least it was only one piston and not them all. But it still hurts. Good luck Steve.

thanks man.. I was gonna update this later this week.. got a 1.8 head from chris..had the machine shop clean/mill and install new valve seals and check for bent valves..all was good.. put it on yesterday and torqued it down today and hooked up all the small things... also put oil in and primed it..then installed all the timing stuff.. tomorrow need to pull 2 of the exhaust studs out cause they hit the manny..then I can install it and the turbo and fire it up.. once it runs I can finish working on the fan shroud and install it and the rad..should have it running by the weekend weather permitting... will post up more when its running.

so after failing emissions 10 times since nov. (6 were due to that bad piston)... i failed 2 more times today but the first guy asked a odd question.. he asked if I wanted it tested in 2nd or drive.(its a auto).. I didnt think it mattered as I was tuning as I go to try and pass... well after the 2nd fail today it was 30 min before they closed.. I asked what rpm/speed they use.. he said 2500.. so when I left i went down the side street.. watched the log.. @ 2500 in drive it was at 13.9 a/f... in 2nd it was 14.9... so instead of tuning and screwing it up even more (LOL).. I went back in and had them test it in 2nd gear...IT PASSED.. I was like holy crap 10th time was the charm lol..here are the previous results best I can remember..

when it failed this morning I said if it fails again tonight im junking the car/ or selling it... when I left tonight i was so upset which is why I said screw it and used my free pass to do the 2nd gear run..glad I did.

hydrocarbons
under load (on rollers) max is 220 @ idle max is 220

prev was 123.. in 2nd gear was 81 prev was 160.. after 2nd gear pull was 164

carbon monoxide
under load (on rollers) max is 1.20 @ idle max is 1.20

prev on friday was 3.20.. prev was 1.12.. after the 2nd gear pull was 0.49
earlier today it dropped to 1.41..
last fail was 1.48
in 2nd gear it ran 0.48

its crazy how running on the rollers in a diff gear can change it so much..but im not complaining. now I have a year to get all the lil things fixed and dyno tuned this summer..gonna make a emissions tune at same time lol..

Another reason why I love NC so much. The guy at the local inspection station just makes small talk with me asking how my family is doing, $10 later I have a new inspection. 8)

Indy is better. No exhaust, no car, no emissions, no problem. There is no inspection. :)

Yeah screw you pal! Thanks to all of the air pollution around here that spawned from all of the steel mills, (thanks Pittsburgh), we have a strict emissions test as well as inspection. 95 and older get the old tailpipe probe and 96 and newer get an OBD test. If your CEL is on they won't even test it because it's an automatic failure. When I first moved to Florida (Brandon, right outside of Tampa) we had emissions testing but they did away with it in 98. The guy down the street from me literally had no hood, fenders, or bumper on his van that he drove everyday but he had headlights bolted to the rad support. Here, if you have anything wrong with your car, you don't get stickers. I hate it here. I have so many tickets on my driving record for non moving violations such as expired inspection and emissions.

You're probably right. I had so many exhaust systems put on at one muffler shop my buddies would get me to drive their cars there so he would leave the cat off. I guess going through a ton of cars has its perks.

x-mas came early this year. (or late from last year depending how u look at it LOL).. since the car seems to be running good I decided to invest into some suspension/brake upgrades before I buy new tires (so I dont wear them out).. also have a 3" dp arriving tomorrow and tires next week..

so now I can finally swap out the back 4x100 to 4x114 (to match the fronts) and get rid of the 1" adapters i have on the rear. got new hubs, rotors and some rear dsm calipers along with new brake pads for all 4 corners. and the drum to disc kit from chris (89mirageman) also got some new stock struts.. just need to figure out which set of springs to use and figure out which set is which lol.. I have eibach pro kits...fwd and awd springs... got camber arms and some honda camber bars (the red ones in pic).. to use for toe adjustments... only thing I might need to do is drill the hole out to accept the 1/2" diam factory bolt.. (just a experiment right now with these).. also got some lower control arms (blue in pic) and some trailing arm bushings

also I needed a new master cyl reservoir but couldnt find one anywhere so ended up getting a whole new master with it.. and some LCA's for the front since it came with ball joints and bushings.

I had replaced the tie rod ends earlier along with the 4x114 duel piston calipers up front..so with the new LCA's the front is done till I get full coilovers for it.. and these parts will rebuild the back end.. now to make it go faster lol...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/121307452040?it ... 20&vxp=mtr

they say there for a 97-01 but everyone on MPF says 93-01 are the same.. so I will find out.. there 90 shipped but took almost 2 weeks to get from FL. to AZ. everything else i ordered same day from NY. got here in 1 week..

they were the only ones in the US.. all the others are from China. now I see theres some on e-bay in Indiana. (but there 125.. and a diff brand but look identical.) I think they just put there own stamp name on them cause 1 of mine doesnt have one printed on it LOL.
