I like the texture. I dont know if its the pictures but as long as its pretty dark that would look sweet.

Im down for the trip to 89s for a good cleaning too. Ill bring a few cases of beer.

Its flat black but kinda hard to tell in the pics. It actually resembles the spray on bedliner quite a bit but not as textured. Make mine diet pepsi or dr pepper and you have a deal.

All my parts laid out, new mitsu metal intake manifold gasket with some copper spray, new bolts and dsm 390cc injectors.

Image

One of the pintle caps was cracked on the 390's so I ordered a new set from evotuner on dsm tuners. I think they were like $6 shipped. I went ahead and replaced all of them since he sells them by the set. New o rings and seals went on the injectors too.

Image

All of the vacuum line fittings were old and crusty so I hit them with the wire brush and shot them with some gold dupli-color paint. I then put some sealant on them and tightened them up. The flash makes the paint look orange but its red.

Cleaned up the coil packs and PTU, painted the brackets and replaced all of the mounting hardware.

Everything mounted.

I need to run to the yard and grab a dsm na 2.0 or elantra 1.8 throttle body. I have one for a 1.6 hyundai but it has the smaller inlet like the 61t ones do. I'm sure it would be fine with the 13g but I don't want to go through all that trouble cleaning it and rebuilding it only to upgrade again later.

I'm glad I did end up putting the intake manifold on before dropping the engine in. A few of those bolts were hard to get to with the ac compressor and bracket back there. I can only imagine how tough it would have been in the car.

You're welcome...

Oh, so I showed this thread to Bill who is also OCD clean. He liked it. However, he did notice your cam gears were dirty. I'm scrolling through the pictures and your thread and he's like, "Wait, his cam gears are dirty!"

"Wow, Bill, I didn't even notice that... I'll have to let him know."

So I'm letting you know, your cam gears are dirty.

Haha, tell Bill they will be covered with a matching gray cam cover once I find one in good shape.

I thought about painting them but figured a simple scrubbing would do. So they're as clean as 20 year old crusty cam gears can get.

I grabbed a na dsm throttle body last week and finally got around to tinkering on it. Here is what it looked like when I brought it home, I named it Mr. Crusty. :P

You guys know that this POS isn't going on my engine looking like this so it was time to tear it all down and make it new again.

Here it is after I tore it down and tossed it in the blast cabinet. I also removed the tubes for the vacuum lines and tapped them with a 10/32 tap. I don't need them and wanted a cleaner look instead of just capping them off with rubber caps.

Image

all masked up

Image

I shot it with some duplicolor wheel silver and waited over night for it to cure and then cleared it with some heat resistant clear.

Image

The rest of the misc parts either got wire brushed or blasted. I painted all of the bare metal stuff so that it wouldn't rust once it was back under the hood. I also rigged up this bit in my air grinder to hold a piece of sand paper or scotch bright pad. This worked wonders on cleaning out the inlet removing the corrosion and carbon.

Image

I also grabbed the shorter mounting studs and the brace from the na dsm as they are slightly different than the turbo parts.

Image

Image

Here it is all put back together. I plugged the threaded holes with stainless set screws and replaced all of the mounting hardware. The hardest part is getting the spring back on and wound up. Especially when trying not to scratch it up. After a few tries it was back on though. I also modified some new seals to work with the na throttle body. The stock ones are actually just soft rubber and not really made for boost. The turbo style ones are rubber coated metal just like an oil seal.

Looking good Chris. I really cannot wait to see this thing when its done. I've had complements on how clean my swap is but you take the meaning of the clean to a whole new level. Call me buddy. It's been too long.

I can't wait to get it painted. I was about a week away from doing so when the tranny went out and since I was painting it at school it needed to be running. Right now its dirty as hell from sitting under a pecan tree and the ants seem to have claimed it as their new home.

What are the paint plans? Are you keeping it white with black bumpers? If I had GT side skirts and front lip I would consider painting the bumpers white and getting different side moldings. I plan on painting mine a Pure White so it is really bright with Trim Black bumpers.

At first it will probably just be white with the black moldings and bumpers. I would like to eventually find a set of the jdm sideskirts and rocker covers that look like the GVR4 stuff. If not I have some GGSX lower door moldings and a pair of GT rocker covers that I might do something custom with and see how that turns out. I may fork out the cash for a jdm bumper, if not I would like to cut the colt bumper just under the molding and then find a decent looking bumper from another make and use the lower half of it so that it still flows with the rest of the car.

In the end, this is the look that I'm going for except of course mine will be white.

Is there anywhere to get those vents/slots? My FMIC goes all the way up and I would love to put some vents so air gets to them but have them look clean like this car.
