The little 13g is on as well as the water pipe that feeds the oil cooler.

I also ordered an ACT 2100 clutch kit this morning. This thing may actually run again.

Thanks! Its also funny you mentioned that, I sold my last swapped colt only a few months after I finished it. My brother and I got the bright idea to start our own business so I unloaded the colt to have some money stashed to fall back on. I regretted it ever since because I put a ton of work into that car and actually lost money on it. Never even got to enjoy it  .

Lets just say this one will be around for a while. 8)

I just got the rest of my parts to put together my 63 and I will be referring to this thread as a how-to. I am only doing this because your pics and writeup haven't been posted as a sticky without all the chitchat.
[/HINT]
If there were a textbook for reassembling, with a subchapter on OCD clean, this would be it.

Definitely one of the nicest builds I've seen. Keep it up!

Haha, thanks man! I don't really consider myself an engine guy so I don't know about the step by step write up. Step one is to get a factory service manual as they really are helpful for sealants and torque specs and a ton of other things. I couldn't have built mine without it.

As for the OCD part, I think you're right. It is a disease. I'm glad I took the time to get it all clean but it is a ton of extra work for sure. If I would have just slapped it all back together I would have been driving this thing months ago.

Chris, I hope you consider spending more time with this one. It truly is a remarkable job you've done with the car so far.

I got around to painting the tranny. Replaced all the case bolts with new ones and cleaned up the other parts. I also modded my na tranny mount to work on the turbo tranny.

Image

I finally got to use my tubing bender and the flare tool that I've had for over 2 years :P . I got them from Harbor Freight a while back when they were on sale. They are made in China of course but worked flawlessly.

Image

I bought some 3/16" brake line from Napa and fabbed up a new hardline that goes to the slave cylinder. I also modded a brake line bracket from a galant to hold the ss clutch line to the tranny. This setup should reach to the oem metal hardline for the master cylinder, if not I will make a new longer one once the engine is in the car.

This should look great once its bolted onto the engine. My clutch should be here any day now. I dropped off my flywheel at the machine shop for resurfacing this morning. Hopefully the engine will go in this week but we'll see.

Which ACT clutch and flywheel combination? FWD 215mm setup or FWD 225 225mm setup?
I'm curious to compare how your clutch engagement and feel is going to be, compared to mine.

Its the 225mm setup on a dsm fwd turbo flywheel, same type that I used on my last colt swap.

I should be dropping the engine and tranny back in any day now. I've decided to do it this time without the intake manifold. I think it would be easier to get to the heater core hoses, the ac lines and the rear engine mount but we'll see. Anyway on to the progress.

black top cas on:

Image

t-belt cover and crank pulley installed:

Image

I cut the ends off of the stock turbo oil drain line and cleaned them up and painted them.

Image

Then I went to Napa hunting for hoses and found this one.

Image

Trimmed it down to fit and it works perfect for an oil drain line. I hate the oem line because its so hard to get it to seal correctly. Hopefully this setup will be leak-free.

Image

Thanks to uweenukr and his dad for the great idea I made use of one of the many dsm rear engine mounts I had sitting around collecting dust.

Image

Elantra t-belt mount installed.

Image

Cleaned up the alternator and installed it.

Image

Along with the used (and hopefully working) GVR4 AC compressor that I bought.

Image

Received my act2100 clutch kit. Hopefully it will hold the raw power of the 13g :P .

Image

I also picked up my resurfaced flywheel and cleaned the engine bay again since it had gotten dirty from sitting and us cutting grass around the car. I still have to drop by my mom's house and look through my stuff in the shop to find an O2 housing and get it put on. Hopefully the next update I make will have pics of the engine in the bay.

I am glad you are starting with new clutch hydraulics and lines.
I hope you won't have the low pedal I am experiencing.
That motor setup is pure eye candy by the way!

Question: What length belt did you use for the AC tensioner/compressor?
