Hey guys I'm curious what the mpg of a stock 4g63t swap into a base model csm is. Can anybody chime in on this? Just wondering if I can still get decent miles per gallon when I swap my car. Thanks,
Steven

This of course will depend mostly on the way you drive but I'm thinking you could squeeze 30 mpg or more out of a 3g with a 4g63t swap.

I averaged 38mpg on the 5 hour drive to the Shootout this year with my swapped Colt (Big 16g, 680's, 23psi). I average 25-25 city/hwy mix when daily driving it, and there are several "you cannot keep me from passing or exiting" pulls in there also.

I would average high 20's with mine, which was an original turbo car. The best I ever did was 33mpg. I had a 4G63T swap with a Big 16g on stock boost. No intercooler, completely stock exhaust. 660cc injectors, 1G MAF, stock 1.6L ECU, S'AFC and ZT-2 wideband for tuning. My mileage probably would've improved if I added an intercooler and exhaust. About halfway through owning the car I swapped from a KM210 to a F5M33 trans with the taller AWD 5th gear, and honestly noticed very little, if no gains to mpg from doing this.

I also have a 3" exhaust and an intercooler and have tuned it to run @ 15.0:1 at hwy cruise, so I am sure that helps. I have the stock DSM FWD Turbo tranny, I would love to have a taller 5th in it, just to get the buzz down. But, the Colt will be in the hands of one of my sons by end of winter as I am restoring a GVR4.

A lot of people swear by using the F5M33 trans, but I am a big believer in the KM210. Having a lower RPM on the freeway doesn't necessarily mean you will automatically get better mileage. Mine went from like 3,100rpm at 70mph in the KM210 down to like 2,500rpm with the F5M33 + AWD 5th gear. This put me way out of my powerband for cruising, and I found that I had to lug the engine way more to pass people and pull up hills, and a lot of times I'd have to change down to 4th gear. It definitely will put the RPM's below that annoying resonance point that all DSM's typically cruise at on the freeway though.

Same here for my 4G61t. Since the 1.6 doesn't make much torque on a good day, especially with 264/272 cams, I get better mpg with the higher rpm of the KM210 trans vs the DSM trans. I've run both plus I run taller than stock tires too so it only makes the DSM trans worse.
