hi guys... im in the process of installing a new front mount intercooler. and was just wondering what the outlet size of the td04 is on a 4g61t... and the intake size... i thought it was 2.25 but after looking online im coming up with different measurements all over.... thanks |

hey i just measured it and it seems to be 1.75 inches but i thought it would be 2.25 (measured with hose on ... idiot) sooo my intercooler has 2.5 inch inlets... what i was thinking of doing it simply running 2 inch piping but at the outlet of turbo and intake ill have a 1.75 - 2 inch reducers and at the intercooler 2 - 2.5 inch reducers.... would that be to much of size changing or should that be fine? is there a mod i can do to increase my intake and outlet sizes? for example i was thinking of getting some pipe expanders and expanding the outlet of the turbo to 2 inches but iam unsure if i could do that with the intake to? thanks |

the stock J pipe coming off the turbo is 1 3/4" inside diameter (I have the pipe and turbo in front of me now) and the intake part going into the turbo from the air filter is 2" Steve |

my setup has the 2 1/2" IC piping also... I have a 2' to 2 1/2 coupler at the J pipe.. and all my ic pipe is 2 1/2.. it is loose fitting but I used 2 clamps and it seems to clamp down good and hold 16 psi.... but im sure you can buy a 1 3/4 to 2 1/2 coupler.. Steve |

hey thanks for that.... so do you think stepping from that to a 2 inch piping then to a 2.5 inch intercooler is ok or is that a bit to big? NEVERMIND! you answered at the same time ![]() |

I personally wouldnt do it.. to many connections = more places to leak. I would try to find a coupler either 2 to 2 1/2... or a 1 3/4 to 2 1/2.. Steve |

slowdsm do you mean run 2.5 piping all the way through to the intercooler? so you think get 2 - 2.5 couplers as for the outlet on the turbo and the intake manifold... i cant find any 1.75 - 2.5 reducers... thats why i thought of expanding the pipe that little bit if it goes.... I am trying to avoid to much lag by pipe sizing if i can one option i was thinking is... get silicone reducers from 1.75 to 2.125 (all i can find) stretch the 2.125 over the 2.25 (i think itll stretch) run 2.25 piping to the intercooler go from 2.25 to a 2.5 then out of the intercooler go 2.5 to 2.25 then run back to the intake 2.25 all the way and use a reducer again 1.75 to 2.125 and stretch it over.... i was hoping that minimizes lag? other thing i could do is expand the outlet of the turbo to maybe a 2 inch (i still dont know if i could do that never expanded a pipe but i found these on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 1005098541 and thought that might work) then go from 2 to a 2.25 run 2.25 pipe all the way through and just get reducers from 2.25 to 2.5 on the intercooler? or does the pipe size from 2 to 2.5 not really produce much more laG? |

yeah come off the turbo with a 2 to 2 1/2" coupler..then run 2 1/2" pipe to the IC and up to the throttle body...the 2" will clamp down onto the J pipe good just use 2 hose clamps on it.. this is the J pipe.. as u can see there are 2 bumps.. put both clamps in between them and it will seal up good.. http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii33 ... AG0438.jpg as for the intake.. u can make it however u like.. im going from 2" up to a 3 1/2" filter.. this is not as crucial as the IC piping so you can make it however large you want to.. alot of people use a 4" filter Steve |
