Have you inspected the ECU with the cover off?? There are injector drivers that are long black things, IIRC, that may be bloated and or broken open. Also, check to see if the board smells fishy/burnt and if any acid has leaked from the fat main capacitors, that if original, MUST be changed out. There are avenues for repair, but start there. Lots of rebuilt ECU's are available, you just need to know where to look on the internet. Britain, Germany, Sweden, USA, etc, etc. I suggest a google search and see what you can find. I just found one on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/93-ELANTRA-ENGI ... 86&vxp=mtr Be careful of the 94.5 timeline on the ECU's because it changed over in 94.5-95. I have ASA Europe up and running, so I plugged in what I figured was your car: C53a Colt/Lancer (EUR) 1600 2WD (2 door) 1988.04.1-1989.04.3 MNGML6, MNGMR6 MD128616 1988.04.1-1989.04.3 MNGMQL6 MD132954 1989.05.1-1990.05.3 MNGMQL6 MD146877 1989.05.1-1990.05.3 MNGML6, MNGMR6 MD146878 What numbers are on your ECU ?? I would highly suggest opening up the ECU, checking it, and then searching out a direct replacement. DO NOT pay $250 for a working unit, unless you cannot source a properly working unit from somewhere like our site, COLT UK www.coltuk.org/phpbb3/viewforum.php?f=110 , or the like. You have many options. ![]() If you need more cross reference there may be a few listings to ECU's from North America that could be used also. I wonder about some of the pinouts being different, but its doable with some pin switching. Regional differences in emissions meant a few wires get switched around. Some other possible options off the top of my head: You can likely plug in a 1.6L 92-94.5 Hyundai Elantra ECU to keep the 4g61 motor operating properly and it will be plug and play. I cannot confirm on the pinout, but the connectors are identical and the ECU is essentially all Mitsu design with differing labelling from Kefico. They are almost 100% the same. I had one in my posession and compared them side by side. You cannot use a 93-96 Lancer ECU because they went to MAP sensor technology and the ECU plugs are completely different and not worth the hassle. |

I don't have that ECU listed in the ECU swappers guide: http://www.4g61t.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9992 I'll check it out. |

Here is what Amayama says about the ECU: http://mitsubishi.epc-data.com/lancer/c ... 32,176736/ 4 door sedan, bubble hatch rear tailgate, automatic 4 speed. Quote: PNC 82522 MD168739 CONTROL UNIT,ENG 1990.10.1 - 1991.08.3 DOHC W/O CHARG LRGMG < SR-4,4FA/T 989.00 USD
ASA Europe says that a C76a model has two other ECU models, not what you have listed. What year is your car, and what country is it from ?? I think someone has changed the ECU at some point. Your car is not turbocharged correct ? Injector drivers usually look like the 5 black squares as pictured below: ![]() Top right corner wedged between the aluminum: ![]() Does yours look like this ECU minus the knock board with the circle in the middle? Can you get a decent resolution picture of your ECU and host it somewhere on the net? Multiple views so we can see the capacitors and injector drivers? |

it looks like that but without e931 chip on bottom right aswell its a japanese import 1.6 dohc na hathback mirage 1990 if i connect a wire to the injector earth i can hear it click on everything in the ecu looks fairly alright no smell no sign of leakage anywhere feel like pulling my hair out at this stage ![]() |

You cannot test injectors driver function by grounding it straight to ground, it will damage the circuits. You have a 1.6L NA 4g61, so yes, a Hyundai Elantra motor ECU will work. A 4G63 ECU will work also (non-turbo), but it would require installing a 4g63 MAF, and injectors to keep things balanced. Would have to be a 1990 ECU to swap straight in (4g63), or a 91-94 ECU with harness wires 6+14 swapped IIRC. Best to find a 4G61 ECU if the ECU is the only issue. Do the injectors fire any fuel when the motor is cranking?? Does the motor crank ?? Does it run but badly ?? |

no fuel coming through the injectors at all the engine turns over and i have spark the fuel is coming up the rail just nothing through the injectors if i pour fuel throgh the intake it fires straight away |

Interesting how none of the injectors fires. Leads me to believe injector drivers in the ECU also. What have your searches come across, in terms of 1.6 4g61 Mitsu ECU's? |

theres not a lot about them to be honest but thats what i did find out that injector drivers or a break in one of the ecu tracks could be at fault |

A break in a trace should be easy to trace if there are two points of metal to you get a DVOM tips to, with no parts in between them. Traces usually show up as being burnt, which should be an indication of too much current/shorted part. Best to source a DOHC 1.16L Mitsubishi computer in "guaranteed" working condition. Have you been to the Colt UK site yet? They are your best bet for local ECU's in and around the British mainland/Scotland/Ireland. Otherwise you will likely be our guinea pig using a 1.6L 4g61 Hyundai Elantra ECU. It should work, just need to compare pinouts for all relevant engine functions, and other than being automatic (which should not serve as an issue for starting and running), it should be the exact same ECU. I don't want to have you buy it and have a problem if it was non returnable. |

yeah im on that site already not havin mutch luck finding parts i also need a door card for it not easy to find any parts in ireland cant see any sign of burning on the board and the drivers dont look like there damaged on the outside its strange that i have spark and fuel pump running just injectors not firing i think i might have to trace the wiring back from injection to ecu and see if i missed something its a tough one to crack |

That's fantastic news! Glad to hear it. Just in case the new ECU hasn't been, check and if needed, change the capacitors. Minimal fuss to save major headaches and drivability issues before they start. |
