Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. I am currently doing this build. A Hyundai Excel 1989 (square lights) to a 4g63T swap. I bought the car with a 4g N/A in it already but I am unsure if its a 7 or 6 bolt in it. I'll be dropping in a 6 bolt out of an eclipse soon. But i wanna know what tranny is in the car. I have a few engine bay pics. Maybe one of you seasoned veterans can see the trans and tell me what it is and what HP rating my tranny and axlescan handle safely. The trans is also a cable clutch trans, not hydraulic. That is quite the setup. I see a Crank Angle Sensor/distributor that has a distributor cap and rotor off the back (most 6 bolt/7 bolt were just a Crank Angle Sensor only, as they used a coil pack triggered via the ECU to the ignitor then coils. Also you have an unsual transmission - cable clutch??? 4 speed? There should be a serial # just under the distributor on the transmission bell housing. Could be a really old transmission (early Mitsu) or well, lets wait and see what numbers you can find stamped into a flat smooth spot on the top of the bellhousing first, if it has this. Oooh, twin carbs! That motor has some interesting nastalgia to it. Love the color scheme! Your car is like a time warp of parts swapped onto what outwardly looks like a normal 4g6X motor. P.S. What numbers are stamped on the right side of the cylinder head? Numbers on the block should be somewhere near where the dipstick comes out, front side - flat spot and will show a 4g6X marking. The number where the X is, will determine your engine displacement. Welcome! |

The engine has twin webers. The car was setup for rally actually. As you can see it is not EFI, so whoever did the install used a dizzy from a hyundai motor (forgot the exact model, will have to recheck). The gbox is 5 speed actually. I cant actually tell you what numbers are on the transmission. The car is in the caribbean and I currently reside in Canada. I'll be goin home on vacay to wire the new 6bolt up soon. I was just really hoping someone could've told me what trans it is just from the picture. I'll get my buddies to go get the numbers off the trans soon tho. Thanks again |

Aiight guys, I contacted the guy who swapped in the NA 4g63 and he says that the trans in the car is the original hyundai excel gearbox and that the bellhousing is too small for a dsm flywheel and clutch that i have on my newly rebuilt 6bolt. So now my question is, can anyone provide info on how to do a complete swap of a dsm fwd trans into my car? that includes info on what axles to use. I would be able to figure out and complete the conversion from cable to hydraulic myself. Any info will be appreciated |

7 bolt will have a slight hump in the oil pan where it mates to the block right behind the main pully, and the 6 bolt will have a flat gasket surface. I know it's not what you were asking but will help to clarify that part for you anyhow. Were the single cam 4g63 engines equipped with a dist? I see a conglomeration of 5 different things going on here. |
