Your new best friend:

ww.lilevo.com/mirage/

Find the 89 CSM Turbo FSM.

Barring that, I will now post the information you requested.

4.321 Final reduction ratio

So rear end gears must match final drive in trans correct? I'm thinking about sourcing parts for awd but not going the route most have chosen.

And now I feel like a complete IDIOT because I won't be using the KM for an awd config. :reddot:

Yes, front and rear have to be very close or they stretch the pieces in the middle (the transfer case!). I want to say this with absolute certainty but something about transfer cases not have a 1:1 inside part of the gearing has me thinking. Someone else will be able to chime in and back me up or school us both. I prefer the latter, cause it means I get to sit back and read.

The last big builds on Colts we saw were using a 4 link setup and say, a thunderbird rear end. GSXcolt ? and a at least one other did this.

Thunderbird is just an 8.8 if I'm not mistaken. So with that said there's a few options to choose from. My plan is maybe an Explorer 8.8, posi, disc, extremely solid rear end. The diff size is the only concern I have. The width is very very close to stock a CSM beam.

first off u cant use the km210 if your going AWD lol...

2nd the gearing... 5 spd awd dsm rear gears are 3.54..which if u use a ford rear end u need 3.55 gears in it....which is a 86-87 ford t-bird turbo... i have 1 in my yard I was gonna use but decided to go a diff way.. then went auto..

auto dsm rear gears are 3.31. and ford has that gear ratio but not very popular..

So why aren't more people going this route? It seems to be less work and just as stout as the DSM rear end. What are the drawbacks in your opinion slowdsm?

personally I dont know why more dont use them..other than the fact the bolt pattern is 5/109 instead of the dsm 5/114.. I think they are better as far as not having to replace cv axles/torn boots. and at first I thought u had to run a 4 link type setup with a panhard bar to mount the ford rear..but u can use the factory brackets..u just have to figure out where on the car to mount the mounting points. you can use the aftermarket upper and lower arms like the mustang guys do and have full adjust-ability that way.

seems like it would be alot easier to fab than a 4 bolt setup. and gears/new axles with the 5/114 bolt pattern are pretty cheap to buy.

I was thinking about building new trailing arms with heims or Johnny's and a watts link instead of a panhard to keep things centered under load. You still have to clearance the tank for the drive line but would be considerably less work. As far as the lug patter, you could use adapters for a cheaper alternative. The axle width between mounting surfaces is nearly identical so a bit of adapter wouldn't hurt anything.
