so a few weeks ago i was power houseing the car and all the sudden the engine got really loud and the vibration was intense. the car drives and idles fine but as the RPMs increase so does the engine noise and vibration. at idle the whole cars interior rattles and mirrors look like im blasting subs... so me and a frien think i broke my balance shaft belt. ive bought a new one but hear its a pian to install... oil pump off, engine mount off, timing belt off... is there anyone in socal looking for some money that can help me replace it... my number is 609-675-8579 hit me up ASAP if you can im 20 mins NE of San Diego but can drive to you if needed.

Don't drive the car! If the balance shaft belt did break it could get caught up in the timing belt components and cause even worse damage. Pull the timing cover off and see what's going on in there. Personally I would look at this as a perfect opportunity to install a balance shaft elim kit.

I don't think it's your balance shaft. The vibrations are barely noticeable, not nearly as extreme as your saying. I've driven a lot of dsm's without the balance shaft belt with no ill effects.

Do you have any idea what it may be? I could post a video on YouTube and post the link if that would help any...

It vibrates while driving and at idle. If I rev first gear to anything over 4k Rpms the engine gives a very distinct sound like something is out of balance and rotating. The vibrating is so bad it keeps backing out my biss screw Nd fruit and banana with my idle. Last night I gave it a pull and my oil dip stick backed out and I shot oil all over my hood. It wasn't alot of oil maybe 1 cup

damn.. 1 cup out of dipstick is badddd..

I was gonna suggest the half shaft came loose or broke off the block if it was while driving only.

but with it backing out the biss (which the rubber o ring it shouldnt let it move at all unless u screw it with a screwdriver)..and that much oil coming out of the dipstick sounds like major issues.

1. do a compression check..(could be a broken piston/ring land)
2. pull the top t belt cover and look for any signs of shredded belt in there..
3. if comp check is good and no signs of belt fragments I dont know what else to say except maybe pull the lower front cover for a better look at the belts.

Sounds like the timing belt jumped timing. Check the timing belt like someone else said.

Would that cause alot of vibration? I could see it causing knock but not car shaking at idle.

If the balance shaft belt slipped a number of teeth, this will compound any vibration. That much oil coming out of the engine is suspect, as was previously mentioned above.

I'd say ring lands and/or a hole in a piston. Check the compression.

Is it still making the same power as always or does it seem more sluggish? Maybe a cylinder or two not firing or a boost leak.

It's only down on power slightly. I've had a boost leak at the mAnnifold. Trust me it's not a boost leak. Evotistical said he might swing by sometime so well see then. Wed I'm gonna get a timing light and do a compression check.

Before you do these things you should take the timing covers off and visually confirm that the timing components are in fact in time.

i had this one time when dogging on my old dsm. The rear balance shaft bearings had worn out and spat the rear balance shaft bearing right out of its bore... the bearing rattled down the shaft and then was smashed by the crankshaft before heading to the bottom of the oil pan... It briefly siezed the oil pump and jumped the oil pump out of timing throwing the balance shaft out of time as well. This caused a crazy vibration i higher RPMS.. the engine definaly did not feel right. Luckily somehow the cams and crank stayed in time tho.. just the rear oil pump sprocket skipped.

I ended up taking it apart... replaced the front cover/oil pump and did a balance shaft elimination at the same time. The oil pump was ruined tho from the balance shaft wobbling all over the place

after i did the BS elimination and everything the engine ran great and lasted a year more of abuse till i sold it... i think shes still going strong too hahah
