I have an aftermarket transmission cooler on my car. It doesn't get airflow in its current location. I have been thinking of adding a fan to the cooler, does anyone know if this will be too much of a draw on the car?

I doubt it. Fans only draw a few amps. If you have a working alternator it will be fine. I run an 800w Amp/Speakers every where I go :P

EDIT: Put it on a switch or something maybe

Depends completely on the fan you pick; you can always limit it with a few ohm resistor if needed... My radiator cooling fan draws about 20 amps and it's pretty obvious when it kicks on.

I'm putting in a trans cooler and fan in the next few weeks, I'll let you know what end up running.

I don't think a computer fan would draw too much power, but I don't know how long it would hold up to weather.

Are you running a cooler in the radiator tank too? It would probably run cool enough just to run through the external cooler, then the internal one after it without an extra fan.

I figured it was an automatic when I read transmission cooler in the thread title.

Does your aftermarket Afco radiator have an internal transmission cooler? The liquid to liquid coolers are very effective. Especially if you precool with an external cooler.

they make fans specifically for this. Run it on the back side of the cooler for best efficiency. Josh never had much issues, but he kept eyes on the temp gauge at all times. Look into a mr. gasket fan that is a size that will fit behind the cooler.

I need a new trans gauge, it crapped out. But that cooler gets pretty hot if the turn signal is left in place, Stays ice cold with it out though!

Modify the turn signal. Make it a sweet funnel for air.

I still need a turn signal, I drive the car as much as I can on the street. I was thinking of something right under the turn signal as you cant really see under the bumper.

Yeah josh never had the turn signal in. I'd get the Mr. Gasket fan. They flow the most. The Jegs, etc, other brands, don't even come close to the flow of the Mr. Gasket ones. Just make sure you use thick gauge wire to power it, it's going to run a lot.
