Post subject:  Colt 4g63 swap with Acura radiator... question

Hey there, I was toying around with different style radiators that me and my friends had. This one fit really well under the hood and has the filler on the radiator and the bottom outlet is in the same general area as well... here's a few pics of it installed underhood with an oem 4g63 ac cooling fan installed. This is from a 99 Acura Integra GSR

My only concern is the thickness of the radiator, it seems a good 20% thinner then a stock 1g turbo radiator. Does anyone know if it will efficiently cool a 4g63t? And will there be an ill effect of having 2 filler caps? The oem GSR cap is rated at 16psi, and the 4g63 one is 13psi.

You shouldn't have any cooling problems at all. People use Civic radiators in CSM's all the time, and those things are half the size of that Integra radiator. If you're concerned about having 2 caps then swap to a CSM (4g61t) or a GVR4 thermostat housing, those cars came stock with a cap on the radiator, but it shouldn't give you any problems. I'd probably run the same pressure caps in each, just because it seems odd to have 2 different pressure caps on there.

Nice find!, Those Radiators are cheap to find! Where there any relocation of the tabs?

That Acura radiator is probably the same size as a Colt 1.5L radiator. I run one in my 4G63T Mirage with one 1200cfm slim fan and I have no cooling issues. :supz:

I had a gsr 4 years ago, I bought this radiator for a spare. I looked at it, thought about putting it in the colt. And it fit right in, even fits with the stock upper brackets. I had to buy a straight hose for the upper for it to work.

Sup guys... I'm gonna hop on this dead horse and try to ride. Tonus will probably know, but here goes. Most of the aftermarket Rads I've been looking at putting in my car don't have the little lower temp sensor bung near the lower outlet of the Rad (I'm assuming is the fan temp sensor to the fan relay). When switching over to an aftermarket aluminum Honda rad what do you do with your fan wiring and how? I've been scouring the boards, but I can't find an answer. And please don't tell me to just wire a switch, because 1) I'm too old for that 2) I have the memory of a gold fish and I'll overheat 3) everyone will laugh at me. Thanks guys.

This won't help much because I can't remember exactly how I did it but I just wired my fans to come on when I switched the car on. I think I just made a short jumper wire to go in the fuse box under the hood in place of the relay but that was four years ago. The car has been gone for a few years now.

Like into your ignition relay? That's probably ok down south but I live in PA... 80 one day, 4 inches of snow the next (I exaggerate). There has to be a "right" way to do this...

I cut a piece of tubing that fit the inner diameter of my radiator hose and rolled the edges to give it a lip, then cut a chunk out of my hose and slipped the pipe inside. Drill+tap for the sensor size and a little tape to keep it from leaking.

Does your car still have AC? If so running the fans all of the time isn't a good idea but if the AC is gone there is nothing wrong with it. I think I removed the fan relay and replaced it with a jumper harness.

Or like Mechacode said, just rig up an inline adapter and screw the sensor into that.

I've got a 1200cfm on a honda rad wired to key-on (always on). No problems keeping cool.

so if this 99 integra rad bolts up, then an aftermarket aluminum rad will sure fit right? This gives us more choices when we want to run aluminum rads. But would the stock 99integra rads better than the stock 61t rad?

If you're going to buy a new aluminum radiator anyway just get an evo 3 radiator. They bolt right in and have the threaded hole for the fan switch. Plus the inlet and outlet is the correct size for a dsm radiator hose.
