So I opened up my old ecu that pulled out my colt from awhile back because the car was not starting. I opened it up and it looks like the big capacitor leaked out a little on the board. The thing is I didn't know it is EPROM.... So my questions is the ecu salvageble or is toast? thanks

I had the same proble,Or actually mines was acting up,went from Being So So,To worse in a matter of days,Part of the reason why the owner sold it to me.

I simply bought an Ecu off a member by the name of Trevtec,My car runs fine with it!

And i actually bought some Cap's off ebay just incase my old one salvagable,Still have looked into that yet.

Get somebody who knows if the Ecu is still good,Get the caps Replaced,I have some extra caps my self,But Ebay only charges like 3.99$ for them,just gotta find somebody who knows what there doing and put them.

I wanted to pick it up because i KNEW it was the Ecu.

na its my car is white. Yea I am already running another ecu but If it was salvageable I would love to get it fixed and socketed so I can run DSMlink.

They are replaceable, any electronic repair store should be able to replace them for you. Or you can buy a decent soldering iron (not a soldering gun) and try it yourself. Just dont heat the circuit board up lots.

alright cool I knew you could replace the capacitors. My main concern was that it looks like it leaked on the board some so I was wondering if that would ruin it.

I've "heard" you could clean the board, but I have no idea how you would do that.

wow I was bored so I plugged in the ecu in my car and it started up lol. The guy who gave me the car said it was bad but I guess not..sweet still going to replace the capacitors though for sure. I also plugged in another DSM eprom ecu I had laying around and it started right up and the tach worked fine with no check engine light?.?.? I thought you had to change two wires around. the code on it is MD193295 I was told it was 91-94.

^^^ Don't ever forget....the ECUs decide when to start and when not to. Replace the caps, eh

The VFAQ site says MD193295 should belong to a 1G AWD California car with a manual tranny. 7/92-5/94

This guy fixed/caps/socketed a very badly damaged 90eprom ecu for me. He is very professional and has all tools necessary to test and retest to make sure it works before sending it back to you. there are other people that can do caps/socket cheap but i trust this guy for all my more damaged ecus.
