Post subject:  The Colt's Alive....barely

Aloha,

First I want to thank Jimmy (92colt200e) for shipping me a new ECU. It did finally arrive yesterday. Much Mahalos!!

Plugged it in, the Colt fired right up....however:

It seems to be running REAL rich, won't idle for beans and I'm getting this strange rattle from the CAT when I release the throttle.

It's still a 1.5L, I only need it temporarily (my Talon is in the shop getting the head and manis ported) but I don't want to blow the Colt up prematurely.

The car has been sitting for about 2 months now, so I'm thinking the rich mix could be a combo of ECU relearning, bad gas, fouled injector. The O2 sensor is LONG gone, but my previous ECU learned to live without it and the car ran fine until the ECU gave out. Got some greyish blue smoke from the exhaust whenever I give it a good rev (didn't used to do that).

The plugs were a little fouled black, but nothing to indicate a sparking or distributor problem. I dumped some injector cleaner into the tank this morning, thinking about just putting a brick on the accelerator to help it idle around 1000 - 1200 (any less than that and it bogs badly). I can only guess on the idle as I have NO FREAKING TACH (duh, 5 sp manual and no Tach...go figure)

Any other ideas on this, as well as why the CAT is rattling (almost sounds like I've got a grapefruit launcher for a muffler)??

Thanks and Aloha,

-Kev

your cat is rattling because of all that gas your dumping...its running so rich that you melted your cat and prolly broke some pieces of it off...thats what your hearing thats clunking around in there....id say just cut the cat off...gas mileage goes way up lol...
