It would help to know why you changed your oil pump to start with. Most people don't just one day decide to change the oil pump, so I'm thinking there is something else at work here. Possibly a balance shaft seziure or something similar.

What brand pump did you use and have you taken the gear cover off the back and check eveything in there? Sounds like the gears are bound up against the cover, or there is something in there.

changed the pump because the bs screwed the other one up. This is a brand new pump from mitsubishi. Like I said as soon as I go to bring the oil pump sproket nut up tight it binds up

what balance shaft eliminator kit did you use? The cheap knock off stubby shaft has a problem of binding

The gear cpver does not have a gasket, it is a machined sealed surface.

IIRC, there are not any washers associated with the pump.

Are you sure the gears are not in the wrong way? When you put the gears into the case, you should see two corresponding marks on the gears. One for the balance shaft and one for the timing belt. It is possible to put them on the wrong way.
