I have come to my senses that piggybacks are crap. Especially for what I am looking too do. Now all I need to figure out is if I want to drop the $1500 on it. What say you? Any previous experiance with CSM turbo harnesses and this ECU would be nice. Pros and cons.

If you know what you're doing, get an EMS, and you'll never look back. If you don't know what you're doing, but have an unadulterated passion to learn, get an EMS, and you'll never look back. If you don't know what you're doing and you're kinda like "meh", then get a DSMLink and a GM MAFT and you'll never look back. That way, you'll figure out what you're doing and then you can go EMS later.

Friends don't let friends go megasquirt.

Just Kidding

I like the plug and play features of the EMS, not to mention the anti lag and intigrated stutter box.

Plus I don't feel like rewiring my car again.

I have the SAFCII w/ GM Maf and MAFT right now and I am not a fan. I crave more, something which I find the EMS can give me.

Yeah, an EMS can pretty much give you whatever you want. I wouldn't do it unless I knew someone who could show me how to use it though. You can go really far with just a DSMLink and tune a lot of the stuff you want to be able to tune, like timing and such. If I were you, I'd go DSMLink, since you already have a MAFT.

Seconded ^^^ and they are a site sponsor!! Shameless plugs inserted <here> 8) ... but seriously.

Why rewire, when everything can be done internally and you do not add any wiring complications to the equation. There is a long list of reasons as to why you can still come out ahead using DSMLink. Heck, you don't even have to use the MAFT except that you already have it in there. I don't think you gone beyond the britches of your motors pants yet, so you do not require the most sophisticated engine management systems.
Some features are nice but at what cost and are they truly needed for you application? My two pennies.

Well given what I've heard about the AEM EMS this is most definitely not a quality product. There have been numerous problems with these devices that have lead to destroyed motors - incorrect/inaccurate ignition timing comes to mind.

There is no excuse for alpha testing by using your customers as guinea pigs even if you do fix the problem IMO.

If you want something that is reliable buy a Haltech. If money is no option, buy a MoTeC. Image

I tend to stick to the philosophy of "garbage in ---> garbage out" when it comes to standalones. Everyone I've ever seen who's toasted a motor with an EMS had it coming to them becuase they didn't know what they were doing, or they did something wrong. It may not be as forgiving as some of the multi-million dollar standalones, but to each their own.

my ems is on the way and the guy that is tuning it has done over 20 ems setups in the past two years and they are all insane. i would def go with ems, everyone i have talked to said it is a lot of money but once you have it you know you did the right thing.

That was like 4 years ago, today AEM's are great quality and allow to pretty much go as far as you can imagine, but the maps out of the box are crap so be prepared to do some real tunning right off the bat. If you don't have things like a wideband and some dyno time scheduled you are not ready. I usually say 11's and slower get a DSMlink, 10's and faster get the AEM.

That has nothing to do with anything, but ok. Shep could do just as well with any standalone, I'm sure he chose AEM because it's either plug & play, or someone gave it to him i.e. sponsorship. Haha.

Can we get specifics for power range, daily driver or track queen, 500ish + whp can be done with dsm link and gm Maf , plus the drivability is great. We have a 2g awd pump gas + meth, car running gt3076 (37psi) on dsm link gm maf Daily driven. Car is very drivable around town I would put whp something in the mid to low 500 (hasn't been dynoed yet)

My 91 Talon has AEM (578 whp on a dynapac)
c16 10degrees timing 35psi gt35R car isn't nearly a drivable now I do have 1600cc inj versus 850 on the other car. I have often considiered switching my car back to DSM link because of the drivabilty. Just my .02

I'll be shooting around 500whp on pump gas. It's not going to be my daily driver, but I will be driving it around alot (all) of the time on the street.
