Post subject:  Hyundai Km 210 fitment?

Has anybody replaced the km210 in their turbo with one from a Hyundai? I thinking of this as the final drive ratio is apparently taller, that would give me longer gears and hopefully less wheelspin. Just wondering if there is any install issues, and does this seem like a good idea??

I hear the gears aren't as strong as one from a turbo.

there is a guy about 2 hours from me who put a Sonata Transmission in his turbo colt and he said it is just awesome. he said his highway gas mileage went through the roof

A guy here in Ottawa that actually turned the members of this site onto the whole Hyundai Sonata thing, was making 230 Whp on his setup and never had an issue. I don't know if he dynoed it much on the heavy rollers and he still had stock 13's on it for sleeper effect, so it must have been easier than Wade's 280HP+ he is looking at now. At the least, consult the guys at Team RIP about what they think of the 2.4 KM210 trannies and if the only thing the 4g61t tranny needs is a different final gear ratio, won't another 1 fit? I guess you have to look at the whole picture that would mean having to change all the internals to match the new gear and that just doesn't make much sense. I think a built KM210 with taller gearing is the easiest drop in fitment with the strongest bits accounted for in the rebuild. Sound reasonable?

1G built transmission? Which one stretches the gears out more, cause a taller 5th is only usefull on the highway.

Just FYI Hyundai bought the whole kit for building these engines and transmissions under license from Mitsubishi. In theory (and experience backs this up) they should be exactly the same right down to alloys used to make the castings and forgings. There are some slight differences but nothing of real significance IMO. That is, your just as likely to break your shit whether its Mitsy original or Hyundai knock-offs.

I think I'll go with my KM210 as its been bullitproof, get it rebuilt with double synchros, new shift forks, bearings, etc, and see if a final drive from fwd 1g or hyundai will fit in.
