In my never ending hunt for a car, today i found a Mitsu Galant 4dr power everything automatic. Its in a back hole car lot for $1200 and is extremly clean didn't see any body rust at all spotless interior 112,000 miles. Where should i look for problems with this car?? now to the point i was wondering if its extremly expensive and a royal pain to turbo a galant and to put a 5spd in it. because if i do get which i will whore myself on the corner for it if i half to then i plan on turboing and making it standard and did they come 4w4??? |

Turbo'ing the N/A 4G63 is a bad idea. The bottom-end is significantly weaker, especially the pistons. The crank is probably the same, possibly the rods too, but the pistons are junk. Also, the 4G63's that came in those base-model Galant are SOHC, not DOHC like the 4G63's you're used to seeing. The SOHC 4G63 has a lot less potential, and I don't know if you can bolt the DOHC head onto it, but I can't imagine why you'd even want to bother. You can probably swap in a 4G63T, and at the same time convert the car to manual transmission, but it seems like a lot of work and a big waste of time and money. Galants came AWD in '91 and '92, they made 2,000 of them in '91 and 1,000 of them in '92 and it was called the Galant VR4. It shares very little in common with a base-model Galant. If you have tons of car knowledge and experience in fabricating and overall mechanics then I'd suggest trying it as a neat project, but if you don't, then don't. |

i do believe it may be awd does that change anything. if it doesn't have a turbo then does that automaticly mean its N/A on the plate in the engine compartment it just said 4g63 |

It could be a Galant GSX. Those were N/A and AWD. They're even more rare than the Galant VR4. If that's the case, then it's a DOHC 4G63 N/A, I still wouldn't want to slap a turbo on it, but that does make a 4G63T bolt in a bit easier. If you can get it for $1,200 and it really is a Galant GSX then go for it!

I'm not sure if it is awd but there was a button that i believe said something like 4 a/t that was behind the shifter towards the rear of the car but before the center console. what would need to be done to swap in a 63t would the harness work or would you need a 63t wiring harness. still a 4g63 is much better than my 1.5. |

Try to take pics of the car and post them up here, I can tell you by looking at it if it's AWD or not.As far as swapping in a 63t is concerned, this probably isn't the right forum to be asking because people on here mainly focus on swapping CSM's, not Galants. You would need a turbo wire harness if you're swapping in a turbo engine, especially if the car is SOHC, everything is different. |

If it's a GSX it's a worthwhile car to pick up. If it isn't a GSX then it's a giant heaping pile of shit, unless it's a VR4, but I doubt it is.
