I am ready to lift the 4G61 out of my 89 factory turbo and I am curious to know if the engine and tranny can come out as one piece...it looks to be very tight and may not be possible. I will be using an engine leveler but please somebody tell me if it comes out as one piece?? |

I put my 4G63T and FWD DSM tranny in my Colt in one piece so I would say yes they will come out together. |

Just make sure all the wires are disconnected, then lift it a foot or so and unplug the connectors you forgot about, then lift another foot and unplug the other connectors you missed, lift until it almost clears, then stop and disconnect the last 2 connectors you missed. |

I second all the checks on wires, think the first time I did a removal I was starting to lift the car. Your lucky with the 1.6t to swap with. Everything is the exact same as long as the 2.0 is the same year |

When pulling the trans/engine combo, makes sure you pad the area of the trans that will hit the body when the combo rises. You will need to keep the trans dipped until it can be slunk out towards the drivers side - pull - as the whole combination is being raised. |

yah...I know the tricks, I just helped my buddy yank the engine/trans on his 91 galant AWD and it was pretty much the same thing. I just wasn't sure if the small engine bay in the colt was enough room to bring them out as 1 |

take the trans mount off the passenger framerail, and theres "tons" of room to lift it straight out. |

im surprised you guys pull her out the top i was thinking it was easier to drop it out the bottom on most dsms |

It probably is but all I have to work with is a jack, jack stands and a cherry picker.

Cherry picker FTW. Just yank the radiator+fans too, less chance of punching through it with a turbo (which you should have taken off already with the exhaust manifold). |

When ever I do mine I just pull the rad + fans, tranny fender mount, wires, and left over hoses. I leave both manifolds on, easier to get them off the head when its out of the car. |
