My friend put agx for 1g awd on the rear today. It is sitting very low. I noticed on the suspension forum they put bushings are needed. IS that what they are for? To act as spacer or something?

Put 1G rear springs in the car.

The bushings are used to mount the shocks to the car. The AWD shocks have a bigger hole then the shocks for the FWD cars. So you need bushings to fill those holes.

FYI, I just looked on Conicelli and brand new rear FWD springs are $18.20 a piece and AWD rears are $19.24. That'll give you a price reference if you are trying to locate a used set.

Ben, you're running AWD springs in the rear for the appoximate 1.75" drop correct?

Trent,

Yes I am. Teamed up with Progress front springs from an AWD 1G. Nice 1.5-2.0" drop.

thats pretty cheap for stock shocks. maybe I'll throw a pair of those on the colt, see how they dampen. for anybody with an old stock shock lying around, does it say who manufactures it on it anywhere? thanks.

That's the price on springs, not shocks. I bet the shocks are much more expensive.

I believe the stock shocks were made by KYB. At least that's what the original shocks on my Talon were made by.

[i:3rat87wl]Duhhh, which way did he go George...[/i:3rat87wl] sorry...

I check on Nopi.com for a 1992 Eagle Talon AWD the AGXs are $375 & GR2s are $180 (which I think might be the same, if not better than stock because KYB also makes a cheap one)

Shock/Strut
453+3477 $114.76 KYB - AGX Adjustable Gas Shock. (Left or Right Front), All Models, 4 positions

453+3479 $72.63 KYB - AGX Adjustable Gas Shock. (Left or Right Rear), All 4WD Models, 8 positions
------------------------------------
453+7234 $49.68 KYB - GR-2 Gas Strut, Left or Right Front, ALL Models.

453+1485 $40.81 KYB - Rear GR2 ALL w/ 4W/D

I also checked for
1989 Mirage GR2s, $194 DAMN! & I paid $235 from Mike at DSS.

453+1420 $40.89 $0.00 KYB - GR-2 Gas Shock, Left or Right Rear, ALL Models

453+7237 $56.16 $0.00 KYB - GR-2 Gas Strut, Left or Right Front, ALL Models.

As I understood it the GR-2's are stock replacement.

The GR-2's will last -at best- *marginally* longer than stock struts in a *stock* application. As we all know, the stiffer the spring (as in coilovers or AWD springs), the higher the frequency of the spring oscillation. Basically, it moves shorter and faster. The stock and GR-2 struts aren't made to handle the higher frequencies and fail (seals blow) faster.

A shock like the AGX or the Koni or the Gab's are made to handle higher spring rates and will probably pay off in the long run. I've had my AGX's on my 91 AWD for a year now with super stiff AND short springs (progress) with no signs of deterioration. However, my brother's AGX's blew out in 6 months using Eibach Sportlines (real short/stiff).

I've never heard of anyone's Koni's blowing out - in fact I bought a set that were a year old for my 95 AWD and they lasted another year and a half until I sold it
