I read over the procedure in my haynes manual and i just want to make sure i got everything understood. I have did the timing belt on my 4G15 b4, but never touched a DOHC.

From what i understand i just make sure all the timing marks are all lined up and remove the tensioner then take off the old timing belt, then take off the tensioner pully for the balance shaft timing belt and then replace that belt making sure the two pullys are in the same position as b4. Then put the new timing belt over oil pump sprocket tensioner pullym camshaft pullys and then the crank pully making sure all the timing marks line up. Then compress the little rod that sticks out of the automatic tensioner and hold it in place with a allen wrench or something and install the tensioner and realease the allen wrench. Make sure again all timing marks line up and gently turb engine over till marks line up again, maiking sure everything is all good. Then i install the upper/lower timing belt cover and install the crank pully

So, you didn't feel the need to do this "before" the motor went into the engine bay? :o :D

That's what I was thinking...But anyway, yeah you have the procedure down. It was tight as hell on my talon so I can only imagine how little room there is on a CSM for a timing belt change. Don't forget to do the water pump too while you're in there. Good Luck with it!

Oh yeah, make sure all marks line up including the balance shafts. If one of those doesn't line up keep turning the engine until it does. If it isn't done correctly your engine will vibrate due to the balance shafts being out of time and the job will have to be redone. I know you don't want to hear this but I would have eliminated the balance shafts while the engine was out.

im not that stupid. I just put the engine in the engine bay for the purpose of getting the timing belt motor mount fabricated. Now that thats done the engine will be yanked out again. it doesn't even have a clutch/flywheel on it right now!! I still gotta clean out the engine bay also!!

So yeah the engine WILL be on the ground, with totall access to the engine.

And as far as removing the balance shafts... i want to keep this engine totally stock for now. So maybe down the road i will remove balance shafts..... but thats just something that will take up more time that i need to spend on just getting the engine running and the wiring issues i need to sort out.

I understand what you are saying but it's a PITA to eliminate the balance shafts with the engine in the car. Unless you are planning to pull the engine and rebuild it later I'd go ahead and do it now. I think the parts are less than $20, a stock BS belt will cost you that much.

Also look on the DSM VFAQ page, there are a few detailed write-ups of a timing belt install with pics. It's very easy with the engine out of the car.

I dont really feel like doing balance shaft removal at this point. I got the new belt and as long as i do the job it shouldn't have a problem using the stock system.

I would like my engine to rev nice and smooth like stock. I hate when the dash and shit vibrates from the engine reving low etc.

When i do my tranny upgrade to the F5M33 i will take the engine out again in aprox 6 months and i will maybe do more work to the engine, maybe take out the balance shafts then if i have to. Im going to run everything stock including all air box stuff and all vaccum lines.

if you are running stock (good) motor mounts...you can't even feel it

now solid motor mounts you can feel it just a bit when you blip the throttle at idle
