Anyone have any idea as to what A-Pillar pods might work with the Colt/Mirage? I have some gauges in Autometer Gauge Cups..but would rather have them mounted up on the pillar. Maybe something from the Honduh or Miatas..would work. Any ideas?

1G talon is an almost perfect fit!

Not really. I took an autometer 1g dual pod and did some reshaping with a propane torch. You really gotta reshape the bottom angle quite a bit to really get it to match the pillar but I got mine almost perfect. I got access to a digital camera so Ill try to get a pic for everyone to see it.

Autometer pods fit PERFECTLY in 1gs. I bet since your in Canada your A-pillar trims are shaped differently being that your cars dont have automatic seat belts.

I saw a picture of a Miata with an A-pillar pod in a magazine..and noticed that it was about as wide and as flat the Mirage A-pillar. I was just wondering if anyone had tried to match either a Miata or Honduh type Gauge Pod to fit. I have a old 1Gen Talon Pod..but I don't think it's gonna fit on my A-pillar without some Major reshaping. You used a propane torch? Wow. Post ups ome pics..I'd like to see it. Ah well..I suppose I can mount the Autometer Guge cups irectly to the A-pillar trim instead. Pisser.

You wouldn't believe it, but the autometer pillar mounts from a 82-85 starion/conquest (the ones without the fender flares) fit perfectly. I have one, and it needed absolutely NO reshaping to mount it.

edit: I had this from when I had a conquest, and I do not know if they are still availble for sale though....

That might be it, because I own both a 1G and my colt, and i can tell you that they don't fit that well on either!

AndyR
Wouldn't the A-Pillar pods for the 82-85 and 86-89 (widebody) Starquests be the same? I mean aside from the changes to the sheetmetal, and engine..nothing else was changed..right? LoTek still makes a gauge pod for the Starquest I believe..hmm gonna have to go check their website now. http://www.gaugepod.com is the site I believe.

Ordered one from carparts.com once, came in a box saying it was from a 97 Accord. Worked pretty damn well.

Hey BluFalcon, actually another change was the automatic seatbelts, the widebody had them and the narrow body did not. I think there might have been a year where the narrow body did have them, but I am not sure. anyway, my pod is from the A-pillar of a starion that does NOT have the automatic seatbelts... That should help.

Going back to what AndyR said about the pods from a early Starion/Conquest fitting on the Mirage/Colts:

I couldn't find anyone who made A-Pillar pods for for StarQuests, other than the later models with automatic seatbelts. However..VDO has a listing in their catalog for both early StarQuests and later "widebody" ones. the part # for the early StarQuest cars is: 240 314 for single pods, and 240 315 for dual pods. They also show a listing for a holder which replaces the factory clock, that holds two gauges 240 321. I have no idea if this will work with our cars or not. I'm gonna take a look at Summit's website..and see if I can get a price for these things..or to see if they're still available.

Well so much for that idea.....

Summit says they're out of stock on all VDO A-Pillar Pods. They say you can place an order for one..and they'll ship it when it comes in. Riiiiggghhht. Checked VDO's website..and they don't even have a listing for A-Pillar pods anymore. Guess my Catalog was just a little too old. Damn...
