It looks like Ive ordered an FSTB, its for the 1g talons, but it should fit. I'll have it for this weekend coming. I bought it cause it was cheap and im dying to do something on one of my cars.
Ive bought one of these last year for my maxima and notice no difference(but then again, i already had struts/shocks and sways upgraded)
Will I feel anything different on the colt??

Also, Im looking into Sway bars for the colt, anyone know if the talon sways are the same as ours?
The maxima's sways were the first mod, and made the biggest effect on handling.

I don't think that the DSM strut tower bar will work. If it does PLEASE let us know what it took to make it work!!

You can use a Suspension Techniques rear sway bar for a 1g DSM on the back of the hatches.

I'm moving this to the "Tech Discussion" forum.

Well, Ive sized up the distances, and engine clearances between the colt and my friends 90 talon, It measures up to the same distance from tower to tower, and clearance difference from engine and hood are pretty close.

As for the sways, I dont like the idea of only upgrading one sway, wont that throw the cars dynamics off??

I have yet to compare the talon and colt for front sway differences. When it gets warmer!

I have compared them and ours is MUCH BIGGER. Twice the size.

Get the ST rear sway for a 1G *FWD*.

It fits perfect. You only need the rear sway because the colt/mirage has INCREDIBLE understear. By upgrading both bars, you would reduce body roll, but the front of the car will stil push madly in hard turns.

By upgrading only the rear bar, you move the roll characteristics of the car, balancing it out more and causing the car to slide more evenly in turns.

Shoot - with the right trail braking or throttle dipping, you can even get the rear end around with the ST bar! (on a FWD!)

Actually, these cars don't understeer THAT bad from the factory. IMO, with a new set of shocks, they are more balanced then the AWD DSM's (from the factory). With worn out shocks that's a whole different story.

The ST sway bar on full stiff will make the car snap oversteer like you wouldn't believe! And yes you can definitely get the tail out, but I like that! I wouldn't necessarily suggest running it at full stiff if you do get it, especially on the street. Also, there used to be another option from JCWhitney, but I can't find it now. It's a smaller rear bar that might be better suited for driving with on the road. It's also about $50 less then the ST bar. I haven't seen where anyone has tried this bar so it may or may not work on the Mirage. I think the bar was made by Addco????

As for a Front bar, I'm pretty sure you're not going to find one, unless you have one made. I honestly don't think the car needs a larger one though, especially if you don't have a LSD. I've even considered unhooking my front bar just to see how it handled without it. The factory bar is pretty large as is.

I don't think the FWD DSM's came with a rear swaybar. I have no clue if the rear AWD swaybar will work. If it does let us know! Also, if you find polyurethane bushings to work, please tell us too! The stock bushings are a weird non-round shape.

Sweet! We need someone to do that!

Here's a list of ideas of things that could possibly fit.

Front Suspension Techniques Swaybar for a 1G FWD DSM (Again, this probably isn't necessary, but worth a shot)

Addco Rear Swaybar for 1G FWD DSM

Aftermarket GVR4 Swaybars (whiteline?)

GVR4 or DSM Strut Tower bars.

It would also be nice to know which if any polyurethane bushings will fit on the car.

Anyone ever see an adjustable panhard bar for these cars?

A rear sway bar upgrade by itself is fine. Generally most stock FWDs could do with a stiffer rear bar. The body roll on most stock FWDs is atrocious.

I have KMAC rear sway bars on both my Excels and the progressive controlled oversteer when I push it is very handy. Especially when compared to the amount of understeer I used to get.

drcolt2000, I had your US Colt confused with Oz spec Colts that we had over here. From what I can see they are nothing like the US Colts. I think that you are right, there does seem to alot of similarities. Mitsubishi designed the first Excels anyway.

In time, I shall try something out , but first will be FMIC, injectors and MAS upgrade, and up the boost.

Then i have stuff to do on the older colt.

Money can only go so far.

I wonder if the JDM 4WD Cyborg C50 has stiffer front sways. I wish that guy from Seattle that imported a Cyborg would sign up.

Did you get the Front Bar in yet? I'm still interested to know if there's any compatibility!

The bar isnt in yet, im getting it for cheap, so the service will take a while. This guy only receives his stuff on Saturdays. He just opened up a parts accessories store, so to keep the costs down he gets the stuff himself from the distributors.

so, tommmorrow, i should have the bar and a cone filter for the maxima.

I didnt know mitsubishi ever made an AWD c50!
Is there any proof of this?
