Post subject:  AWD WEIGHT
What is everyone's junk weight these days? GRM Colt is 2260 without a driver. I am wondering how much work it would be to hit 2k dry-crunching the numbers, it looks tight without going full race car on it.

Let me know-and any ideas past the "norm" for weight loss.

My 90 awd was 2550 1/4 tank ready to race full interior I was really choked the first time I weighed a 4g coupe and discovered they are quite a bit lighter than the 3G cars. I think about 200 lbs lighter. I wanted to awd swap an 80 colt to see what it would weigh but decided its too much work. I still do want to swap a 4g coupe though. I pondered using a solid axle to save weight

Yes the 4Gs are lighter. There are a few swapped 3gs out there so thats where my interest lies! I am assuming the 2550 was without you in it?

91 summit awd is 2620 with me ( 170) full tank ( 8 gallons of fuel =48ibs) plus baby seat ( 6)

dry weight =2396 ibs..

still has full interior, no radio and full glass. I think with lighter wheels, lighter exhaust , mini batteryand some gentle mods this car can easily be in 2200s

Now 2000 ibs damn that is going to be tough, unless We start going for lexan, carbon and gutting.

weight reduction ideas that I want to do

billet knuckles
replace control arms to afco stuff
light weight rotors and brakes
aluminum IC piping versus the stainless stuff.

Mine had no rear or front bumpers either. All glass and interior 10 lb odyssey battery. It could have been 200 lbs lighter with gutted interior no exhaust ( full 3 inch is at least 50). I had really light wheels. I wouldn't gut the interior. Car has to look stock/slow. I installed the rear in that colt with some unnecessary heavy box iron I didn't want the rear to fall out But I bet if a guy tabbed up his own rear subframe out of chromoly tubing you could save 20-50 more lbs. aluminum driveshaft would save more

Yes that was 2550 without me. I'm 210. Yes I need to go on a diet myself. I wouldn't even consider doing a hatch cause the coupes are no kidding 100-200 lbs lighter! I have weighed em all over the years and those truck scales are accurate within 5 kilos the 4g sedan is even lighter than the 3G hatch

Interestingly, there is almost no difference in the weight of a hatch and a sedan.
Lightest option pack w/standard shift - heaviest option pack with automatic.
1991 C52a
2,205lbs - 2,271lbs
1991 C62a
2,271lbs - 2,381lbs

Yeah a 3G vs a 3G. But a 4g sedan is lighter than a 3G hatch (not by much). I'm also in the planning stages for my 93 coupe. I expect to be 2400 if I did the exact same way I did my 3G hatch awd swap. But I hope to be 2300. The other colt had a full size 2000gtx rad. I imagine a small civic rad would save some weight but I can't imagine it keeping the engine cool

Pretty sure LILEVO said his car was just under 3,000lbs. with him in it. Of course, he has a full interior and A/C and all that good stuff.

JDM bumper has the thin metal rebar as well, or more of a form behind the cover! :lol:
LILEVO has one of those.
That is a huge weight savings over the almost 50 lbs for the 8MPH US/CAN bumpers.

Mine was like 2420? last time I had it weighted. I took out some things this year and also put a few more interior parts back in. I need more aluminum parts lol. Besides cutting and spending some $$$$ I'm pretty much out of free weight reduction. Last year I ended up cutting a lot of extra wiring out of the car.

Not sure where you guys are losing 500lbs.

Mine is 2990 sedan with me in it and a full tank of gas. No front bumper support, still has a/c, power steering and full interior with full 3" exhaust.

With the new aluminum exhaust I'm guessing I lost 30-40lbs easy. Not sure what else I can strip out.

I will be doing a full rewire and unnecessary bracketry and metal removal over winter.
