The rear diff ratio is the same in dsm and vista as long as they are both awd 5 speeds. I know this for sure because i had my van tranny apart and counted the teeth on the front diff. Trans is exactly the same as dsm trans, except for a thinner vc. I have also checked my t case to make sure it is geared the same as well.

Pimpy What year was your van?

I guess alot of people dont know that there is a previous colt-vista van before the 91-94 vans. They look like a Nissan Axxess, if you know what that is!

Today I was able to go take another look at this vista. This is what I found,

The firewall plate says the trans is KM132
The tranny itself is stamped MD2496 and 822A. I found these stamps normally where the W5M33 stamp would be.
The pumpkin is cast with MB280516 pictured in the previous page.

With this information can anybody tell me if the rear end gear ratios are compatible with an AWD DSM 5 spd tranny?

Thank you

ASA says MB280516 is a "BOARD,COMBINATION METER PRINTED CIRCUIT"

I think you meant MB290516, that comes up with nothing.

Yes I meant MB290516.

If you look at the first page of this thread I have a picture of that very part number cast into the pumpkin of this car.

That page is an awesome find! Written by Tom Stangl! Thats a blast from the past. So to close this thread out The Vista 4X4 rear end gear ratio

Tom Stangl
Quote:
Vista / GSR diff is 3.909:1. You cannot use the Automatic transmission diff (3.308:1) or the Vista diff with the Talon W5M33 manual transmission. If you do, it WILL fry the vi$cou$ coupler in the transmission
