picked up a virgin 90 eclipse today for the parts i need for the awd convertion to the mirage. car must be the last untouched talon tsi there is. this thing is 100% stock, owened by a middle aged woman.
the best part is it has a e-prom computer in it

What all is needed from the donor car ?

From what I understand (and I'm no AWD expert) you need the ECU (simply because it's an EPROM), the AWD trans, the axles, the rear suspension assembly, all axles, and some other things. This is basically just my opinion as I didn't go AWD myself. I'm sure there will be another 100 post adding things . Also, be sure to add your location in your profile so we all know.

After purchasing lostkause17's car (already has 4g63t with many upgrades) I noticed the lack of traction. So I decided to do a AWD convertion. The donor car I got is in good shape, but I really don't care for the bodystyle, plus it's HEAVY.....

Not all AWD cars had an EPROM ECU. I'm running the 1.6 ECU on my Mirage with the 4G63 swap and it's fine, just need to tune it out with an S'AFC. The ECU also has nothing to do with being AWD or FWD. While AWD and FWD ECU's are technically different, they are still interchangeable.

You take that goddamn 1st gen and clean it up real nice, make sure its in good running order, then swap all the aftermarket parts from the Colt into the Eclipse. Take the swapped out OE parts from the eclipse that still work and put them in the colt and sell it.

My previous statement has a certain amount of credibility considering I own an AWD CSM. If you don't even know what parts to start with I can assure you that if you hack into that colt the chances of it being finished as a successful build is limited. You have an AWD car so you're able to get underneath of it and see whats going on. To convert a FWD car into AWD you take the entire AWD drivetrain out the AWD car and stick in the FWD car.

I personally wouldn't tear a nice bone stock awd(that was driven by a woman) apart for swap parts. This is coming from a guy who has scrapped so many dsms that I have lost count

I beg to differ about your statement " of not getting finished" you have no idea of what myself or others are capable of.. seeing how the people that I work with won the grassroots 2003,2004 challange, plus built a car for the editor of grassroots magazine. also not to mention build complete sprint car chassis, help design and run a CNC TIG welder.

I think you are in good hands, just make sure to lay out a timeline and goals sheet so this does come to fruition. I'll vote that you should do this.

You want to tear into a perfectly fine 1st gen DSM to build a hacked up CSM. Forgive me if I can't understand the logic of that. I don't give two shits about who you work with, what they've done, or how they do it. If yall were such esteemed chassis builders then this forum would be rendered useless by you and your co-workers. From the amount of experience you've detailed thus far yall should be able to piss out an AWD CSM in roughly 6 hours.

Seeing as how this is my first adventure into the csm/dsm world, all I asked is what should be taken from the donor car. I wanted to make sure that I did'nt miss something that would be needed...

You need the trans, transfer, driveshaft(needs to be shortened for the hatch), rear subframe and diff/axles and maybe e-brake cables. You can also utilize the studs that bolt the front of the subframe up to the body, three bolts hold each one on. I think this just about covers it, if I missed something, someone will add to the list
