I own a 89 colt GT, and everyboy da owns a colt would like to make it AWD. well is not my goal yet but im looking to purchase a tranny from shepher. Could i used a AWD tranny now untill i decide to go AWD, i dont want to spend money on a FWD and them buy a AWD later on...... Thanks |

You can use an AWD tranny, but you'd have to weld the center diff or eliminate the viscous coupling by using a spool or something of that nature.

If you weld the diff to run the AWD tranny in FWD mode, when you hook up the AWD stuff you'll have a locked diff and the car will drive as such. I really don't recommend doing it at all.

If you are serious about going fast you will need to weld the diff. Driveability Is not that bad as long as you have power steering. My $0.02 |
