I found this 1" by 2" box tubing in the scrap metal pile at the steel place and thought it would work for a crossmember. It did.

That's pretty good.

I took a look down there and it almost looked as if the sway bar was right in the middle of the "hole" in between the transfer case and firewall. I didn't think any sort of mount would make it through there.

I might make something like this if I get bored. My rear crossbar is on its second fail with the AC mounted. I need to re-do it again.

Yeah if it wasn't for this thread, and the picture of the jdm piece, i wouldn't have considered doing it this way either. I can just barely wiggle it into place, who knows how strong the rear mount is too, given the 60 degree angle it's on. Now the crossmember has to be removed before the engine can be ( i think). But that's no big deal.

I have been planning on doing mine something like that for quite some time now. Looks good, and +1 for not going the same cookie-cutter route as everyone else.

Yeah supposedly the AWD CSMs from NZ and Australia had the crossmember similar to what you built but had a totally different sway bar and control arms that were used to make room for the rear mount. Let us know if it fits.

Of course it fits. I tacked it together under the car, then pulled it out and welded it solid, then painted it and put it back in. Keep in mind my install is possibly different than everyone else's. I made my own timing and tranny mounts too. My motor could be a little further forward (or backward) than everyone else's. But i doubt it cause the cv boots would be rubbing the body if it were 1/4 inch further back.

here are some pics of my bolt on cross member that miragetbo1997cc made for me.it is alot of labor involved. I was going to powder coat it but I am brook like everybody else. so I settled for the old getofabulos way a can of black priemer....maybe I will powder coat it later but it is not a priorety . I watched him make it. it is realy sturdy and fits perfectly. he also did all the welding work for my awd swap. so now I am almost ready to get back on the track.I still need a clutch and a fuelcell. see you soon.... :weedman:

That is a simple, nice looking piece you have there. Miragetbo, what fabrication technique did you use to help jig that crossmember?
