With all the talk about AWD conversions lately is there anyone that did the conversion and now regret doing it?

Loss of top end? No more 4th gear burnouts?

The goods outweigh the bad..

"What's in that thing, 4G63 swap?"

"Yea. . it's all-wheel-drive too."

"$^@#($!!!"

The only negative aspect to the swap that I can think of is the added weight, other than that everything about it is completely awesome.

Does the car handle any better around corners or does it understeer like crazy?

Handles like it's on rails. Doesn't feel loose or like the panhard rod is bending on fast cornering. If anything it would have oversteer.

It definitely wouldn't handle like a 1g AWD if that's what you're worried about.

1G AWD = cadillac
AWD Mirage = gokart

Do you eliminate the automatic toe adjusters when you convert to AWD on a CSM? That would go a long wat towards improving handling and the way the car feels in turns. But yeah, I'll take a short-wheelbase lightweight AWD car, thanks. :D

I did, yes.

Wheelbase-

1G AWD: 97.2"
4door Mirage: 96.7"
3door Mirage: 93.9"

The only thing I regret about doing mine is that I did it to an original 1.6t Colt. I should've found a 1.5 base model to convert. Mine even has all the bells and whistles like cruise, power windows, power mirrors....Actually, I take that back, AWD IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO!!!!

Whats a 4th gear burnout when you can do an AWD 3rd gear Chiiiiiiiiiiirp that sounds like a FWD 2nd gear chirp. Also I love the fact I can go to the track cut a 1.7 60 ft then drive home.On All season radials. The added weight is not a factor when you have traction.

Added weight shouldnt be a factor fellas......
Especially when it's still lighter than a 1G FWD.

If added weight was really a factor to be concerned about, half of us wouldnt have installed the 2.0 motor to begin with.

In the case of the larger engine... a larger dispacement makes up for that added weight, and with AWD the added weight [300 lbs] is negligible when it means you're automatically getting two cars out of the hole on you opponent, able to dump the clutch and launch..in the rain,
and hit highway cloverleafs with your foot on the firewall

MOST FWD cars are FASTER and better handling cars in AWD configuration. I'm suprised more of us havent done it already :)
