so i have just got a 90 gsx i know i need to cut the trunk out and weld it up and i know jason did a write up on this but i need set by step instructions people have did it but no one ever has given exact details or step by step pictures through the process so heres my questions what else needs to be welded in? what do i do tto make the drive line fit itself? how do i make it shorter? and pics are and feedback appreciated |

The video would be the easiest way, as I dont think anybody ever said stuff that you want to know. Like the length of the drive shaft, whats required to make the brakes work... There is lots of info in this site for the conversion but its not that detailed. |

$50 seems fair if not a little on the low side IMO. Its a 2 disc set that outlines all the information and procedures needed to complete the swap, what more can you ask for? Information is not free, that is why people pay to go to college. This information is valuable because he is doing the difficult task of shooting footage and handing out rare knowledge for one of the coolest and rarest swaps you can perform. |

It's just the thing that you want to keep as a reference item even if you don't intend to do this. Someone you know will want the info. sometime. |

and jason has said that in the past. the hatch's are much shorter than the sedan's and 1g awd's. i remember a discussion on the various ways to shorten it (though i think the only GOOD way was to cut it and weld it back together again, but then that would be your weakest spot of the driveline or something. it might still be on here, i haven't exactly searched for it or anything. |

A hatchback's wheelbase is 3" shorter than a 1st gen DSM's wheelbase. Not sure that's how much needs to be shortened but I assumed it had to be to some extent. |

ok, just googled a little bit and there are driveshaft shops out there that shorten and balance the driveshafts so i'm thinking that's the best bet. never thought of balancing it and that would DEFINITELY be a good thing to have done if you're shortening it. |

Any heavey duty 4X4 shop should be able to shorten it and balance it, thats where I plan on getting mine done. I figure if its good enough for a big block v8 with over 400hp to go hill climbing/mud bogging, it should be enough for a light hatchback. for anybody that wants to know, a electric motor rebuild shop will be able to balance the brake rotors. |
