howdy,
wondering if this is still an option?
I'd like to just use my name.
the pseudo username thing seems to have originated from the dawn of the internet and of course we all wanted to hide our identity in those days.

But in this day and age it just seems silly to be called something like dsmracer123. My name is Keane, Here I am and this is what i do... reputation is everything and it strengthens community so i have nothing to hide.
Thanks for your consideration

That's actually a pretty good idea, or have the option to add a real name in parentheses?

yeah real name in parentheses would be cool too and good enough.
i could totally just live with my name in my signature but i would encourage others to add one to their signature as well.
just my opinion still everyone should just do what they feel comfortable with.

its just something ive noticed on facebook where everyone uses there real names.
Not even just real names, but some have there whole lives showing. and its no problem at all.

the other thing that i find annoying is, as you get to know some of these people as people, not just strangers on the interweb
its difficult to go back and forth from facebook to 61t.org and place it all. i just try and match up car pics to learn whos who.

now i guess its different for long time users with legendary names "mirageman" for example.
those usernames are probably worth money ha ha ha.

Now that I have changed the name, just do me a small favor and post your old username, so we know what it was.

I forgot to bring this up before making the swap and any old rsearch eference may not work to the old name unless it was in a convo, versus the username scenario.

Bringing this back up.. Tim.. can we just add another line to the profile section so for us on facebook that want to share can add out names under our usernames on here? i think that will be the simplest way to do it.. lmk if we can.. thanks.

Or what if it was just a "subheading" type deal under the forum SN?
Like mine would say

The profile page does include a section to enter a Facebook name, it is expecting the end of the Facebook link. if your link was http://facebook.com/your.name you would just enter your.name and then your profile page would show a Facebook icon that links to your Facebook.

The older theme that we are using doesn't include profile contact icons for Facebook, Youtube, Google+, Skype or Twitter so the links are not being shown. I disabled the display of the icon so atleast the name is shown for now. I will add some icons with the next update so that all contact links are displayed.

I added a "Name" field to the profile page so that anyone that would like to enter their real name in their profile can, thanks for the suggestion and finding this issue with the contact links.

The display of the Name field below the avatar would have to be enabled for all or none, I'm guessing most prefer off so have left it off for now. The subheading below the name is a forum rank, if you want your rank to be changed to your name post here or send me a pm.
