15 runs, no broken parts so thats good. The tranny is worse than I thought, missed second gear almost every time. Couldnt get into fifth for the first few runs so I turned the rev limiter up so I could finish in fourth.

Best et:
et 12.617
mph 100.002
react .648
60 ft 1.945
- missed fifth gear, but got second good

a handfull of 12 sec passes aint bad at all man.

what does your setup look like? turbo? PSI? etc.

the best part is you didnt have a failure after 15 runs in one day..
im sure mine will fall to pieces first pass.
speakin of that how the hell do you get 15 runs in a day? we are lucky to get 4-5 :o

engine:
63t bored .040 over
272 cams
oversized valves
ported head
wiesco pistons
eagle rods
springs and retainers
rotating assembly balanced
those lifters that have the bigger wholes (I am having a blonde moment now)

other:
20g turbo/dnp manifold
fmic with 2.5'' piping
3'' exhaust
660 injectors
walbro 190 fuel pump(pretty sure its not the big one)
1/2'' fuel lines
aluminum flywheel
spec clutch, I am surprised it held together this far

The tranny is stock from a 93 tsi. I took it apart last month to change the synchros and they shipped me the wrong synchros. So now I have a bag of wrong synchros and a awesomely clean tranny inside and out. Still shifts like a dsm tranny with 180,000 kms on it which is why it sucks.

4 bolt rear diff with lsd. I am going to order camber stuff along with new adjustable struts and springs for the back of the car, it should help a bit keeping the tires flat when I am accelerating. There is other stuff in the car but its not fully installed yet. I think thats about it for parts, oh yeah, tire size is 205/45 mounted on a 16'' rim.

I am not sure what the difference in ratios are but I was thinking of going to an auto for more consistent times. Rear diff gears would have to be changed to match. Not sure about the computer/harness. I would think the cv joints would be swappable. There is nothing electronic in the auto dsm trannies except the back up light part I think.

Ok, gear calculations for a '93 AWD trans at 8000 rpms with a 205/45-16 tire computes to 135 mph. Your traps put you at 6400-6500 in 4th while crossing the traps. Doesn't really seem like you need to go into 5th yet unless your power is really falling off above 6000 rpms, but it would have to be a significant power drop to make shifting to 5th beneficial.

With those cams and turbo, I would assume your power is probably still good enough to be taking the car out to 7500 rpms.

What are you using to tune with, are you knocking or loosing siginficant timing up top? I didn't see a tuning device listed in your mods.

135 in fourth??? I didnt think it would be that high.

I borrowed DSMLink from a local guy (his car has been broken for a year now). I got it just a few days before the races and never used it before. Not sure if or what I was doing wrong but the global setting for fuel would not effect the a/f ratio at all, I could move it one extreme to the other and no change in the car. I had the maft set to bring the a/f close to where it should be, then used dsmlink to get the ratios better.

I tried to setup the air flow meter for the hz stuff in dsmlink, it seemed to help the idle surge problem. I only made a few runs on the strip with the laptop on friday, was not sure really how to tune timing yet, just reading stuff I printed off the net yet again. The link has to go back soon, but I definitely am going to order my own here.

Sometimes I get knock, sometimes not, when I do get it it spikes full with in a few hundred rpm. I am not sure yet why, but there are a few things rubbing, 3'' downpipe on the transfer case is one thing.

We have a turn around all week here at work so I cant really try much until after that is done, thanks for the help so far. The clutch was slipping a few weeks ago on a hot day and alot of driving. I didnt think it was slipping at the track, I couldnt smell it but it might of been a problem with the rpms. How did you figure out the rpm/mph ratio?

I want to take it to a dyno, but the closest awd setup is atleast 10 hours away now. I dont have the spool piece yet for the transfer case.

I used the mph calculator found here

http://www.race-cars.net/calculators/et_calculator.html

and I also a tire diameter calculator program I saved on my computer. A 205/45-16 is around 23.25" Then you just punch in all the numbers and it computes mph, naturally there is an error factor but with gearing it's relatively small. It was within a mph when I plugged in the numbers on my car and I have used it several times to figure out which transmission would net me the best gearing for my current set up. If you get creative you can figure out what rpm your car will drop to going from gear to gear and have a better idea of how your car will respond. I think your gearing is really good for your car. Nice and short and it allows you to get into fourth really early, now its just a matter of getting it tuned out properly so you can pull through the powerband quicker. It also sounds like you may have a slipping clutch, this will become more prominent in the higher gears. Before replacing my clutch, I would hold my car at 7,400 rpm all the way through fourth as I just left it in gear knowing it was slipping and it netted me a 118 mph trap. Just replacing the clutch gained me .9 seconds and a 122 mph trap.

I am currently running 4th to 141mph with 225/50r15 and a 93ish AWD DSM trans. I think I am crossing at about 8000-8500rpm's.

I would highly suggest instead of spending a ton of money on a new trans (or rebuilding) to buy a twin disc set-up.

Ok, thanks for the info and the help guys :D ... Now I got some ideas on whats happening. I will keep an eye out for a clutch setup. The car will last the rest of the summer the way it is now, just no more 1/4 mile stuff. I probably will re-center the rear diff by next spring so I can run different tires later in the future.

Just my opinion, but a twin disk in a 2500lb car with only a 20g is WAY over kill. There are lots of great clutches out there for 1/3rd the price that would be more than adequate. But hey, if money is not issue, and you really like auot-x or road racing, got for.

20g is for now, I plan on something bigger here maybe next year. I should learn how to tune it first on the setup I have before I get a 35R
