Post subject:  Yellow Colt at the strip

Well, I finally got a number on my car. I ran at Great Lakes Dragaway last night, but only got to make one run since the staging lanes closed right away. (arrived late)
Relevant equipment as follows:
Stock 130K mi 6 bolt
14B/2G manifold, MBC to 17psi
FMIC, MAFT, 255 Wallbro, AFPR, FIC 650's
2.5" exhaust turbo to tip
555R's on stock mirage turbo wheels

I pulled around the water box and just did a light little rolling burnout in 1st to heat up the tires. (Im sure they should be hotter) I was spinning well through the 330' mark, plenty o' wheelhop in 1st gear as well.

R/T... .041
60'... 2.201
330'... 6.030
1/8... 8.994
MPH... 82.34
1000... 11.536
1/4... 13.651
MPH... 106.91

Anyways, its a number. The car is tuned fairly decent, pulling about 8-10 counts of knock in the top of 3rd. I know I have to work on getting the tires hotter and improving my launch technique. I dont expect to pull anything better than a 2.0 60' on these drag radials, but it blows me away to hear guys talking about pulling 2.2's on regular tires. Im gonna get some poly engine roll stopper inserts and head back to the strip one more time this year. Just gotta hit a nice cold evening and get a handful of runs to try different stuff.
Driving on the street is a whole different ball game than driving on the track. :)

Nice to get a good base run, but I couldn't help to think that with those mods, shouldn't you be running at least half a sec. faster?

No video of the Colt running, my simpleton cameraman couldnt figure the digital camera out. (doh!) I have plans of going down at least one more time this season, it was so damn busy down there with hillbillies in V8 bracket cars I could only get one pass.

Jasons GVR4 went 12.138 @ 114 on a slipping clutch. (completely smoked the disc) Totally embarassing to admit that thing has a 3065 on it, but we'll get the whole package figured out someday! ;)

The traction is an issue, but this same stuff in an AWD dsm (driven well) should realistically go mid-high 12's. This FWD stuff takes a bit of skill, and I really need some time to figure out launch RPM/shift points. I blew the launch and smoked the tires through the 330 foot mark.
Im certain that I could shave at least .1-.2sec off with just driving alone. I bet I could lose at least .1sec off my 60' times if I wouldve actually done a decent burnout. I dunno, I'll find out what it does on the next outing. Honestly, I'm floored that I broke 13's! :)

No fear man, youre sooooooooooooooooooooo damn close to that 13 :)
If you lived closer I'd lend you these 555R's so you could go snag that pass. Oh well, wait for it to get cold out...if all else fails, try more mods :D

Went to Great Lakes Dragaway last weekend with some really small 20x6x14 MT ET Drag slicks on the car to throw down a few passes. I was driving pretty conservatively so I wouldnt break anything since my backup car is currently DOA.

Best pass:
60': 2.132
1/8: 8.667@86.56
1/4: 13.140@110.10

Some beater muslecar took out the 330' and 1000' cones earlier that day, so Ive omitted those numbers.
IMO, its not too shabby for 17psi on a 14B. I am sooooooo tempted to go back one last time this season to snag that 12 Im looking for. Either way, its a half second faster than last time. :D

Thanks for the comments guys! Yes, I made those passes with a full turbo interior (minus spare tire) but had a bunch of CD cases, fuel jug, laptop, clothes, small cooler, ~1/2 tank of 50/50 110/93 octane, and ~200lb of driver. :D
ECU is from a stock 90 laser RS turbo. The engine has about 150,000mi on the shortblock, and 25,000 on a stock head. Im getting consistently upwards of 30mpg highway commuting to work everyday, and beating on it around town all day long still cant take fuel economy below 20mpg. Now that the temperatures are down in the 30F's at night, I've experienced some of my first few torque-steer-laden 80mph rolling 3rd gear burnouts.
('only' used to spin till 60ish in warmer weather)
It makes me smile just thinking that I have a car that looks like nothing, and does a bit of everything

Ahh... I think I'm gonna cry. My colt looked just like that only diff was that it had a subaru bumper on it and gt side skirts and lowered but that car remindes me of my car. It was yellow. I still have it just can't drive it. I can't wait to get another one so I can have a car to drive.

ive been wanting to take my G32BT colt to the strip just to see what it would run. I havent had a chance to yet because when the season comes around, somethingwrong has happened and i end up doing some sort of rebuild. Soon ill be looking for a boost controller and guage just to squeeze a couple more horses out of it.
