After being asked 497120342134 times to build another, I was happy to save a clean local chassis that was one foot in the grave.
Image

I am going to toss it together with parts I have laying around collecting dust. I should have all of no money into the thing after its all said an done-I am confident I have enough junk laying around to put it together.

Image

Next to its TDB brother-an 85 RX-7 picked up a few weeks earlier. That will be the long term-winter deal. ;)

This wont be the Busa slayer the old Colt was (for now) but should provide fun for the rest of the season. Making the shootout is a maybe- but with no time between the work, a weekend trip to "The AC" coming up, and not having a motor together, it may not be likely. We will see! Stay tuned to see what parts I dig up for her.

That is very clean. Rarely is a clean shell of that generation seen around Cincy.

I will get some up-85 GLS-set up for a SBF-with a Granny's kit. Still has the T5 in it (which uncle Bill now makes a Bell housing for)

Found enough spare parts to toss a motor together! She"should" hold. :) Crank looked good. rods and Pistons looked good. Did not have my Mic. or Calipers at the house, so it had to pass the EYEBALL test. ;) Poured some Beer on it just in case....

Now, I am a little sketched out about the bearings-never used this brand before, and I am not sure I would use them again. The seem to have a smaller tab to prevent the bearing from spinning that was what in there (presuming Federal-Mogul as thats what I usually use) but its all I had on shelf-and I am pressed for time!

Image

A little hard to see but you get the idea. Opinions on this??

Found a useable Head Gasket and some studs and slammed the head on. I am not sure the intake manifold is going to fit (may interfere with the clutch master) so it is loosely bolted up for now

Image

Went to storage and got a couple of bins full of goodeis. I should have enough to do an intercooler set up, all fuel (including cell, the car has no gas door!) and a few odds and ends. I should be ready to start the car with what I have there. 100% spare parts build looks achievable!

As for THE COLT- I ran into an issue-clutch. I have a 2600, but no good aftermarket discs or flywheels for a FWD. I also have a AWD PTT twin disc, but we all know that wont work in a FWD bellhosuing, right?

Out comes the grinder!
Image

The AWD flywheel is a little more than an inch smaller than the FWD-so I figured I needed the starter to come down at least 1/2 an inch. There is no way to do this on the trans really. You cant to grind that much off the bell housing without destroying it, and I wanted whatever I did to be repeatable in-case of trans failure.

So what I dreamed up was to stud/brace the dust shield (IE/cut a bolt in half and weld it to the shield) for the lower starer bolt in a new position that will engage the AWD flywheel-and hog out the hole in the plate-retaining the top bolt for maximum stability.

Image

Image

The test rig with AWD flywheel and clutch-she works!!

Image

It may be the first ever, but I am not sure anyone will be in a hurry to repeat this one. But for now- problem solved. PR fabrication FTW once again.

PR+Coronas+no sleep=

Image

Still a long way off as there is NO fuel system, IC. some wiring..ect. We will see.... Back to work.

lol no comment about the shorts? your funny tony :drinkers:

and IIRC the PP and disk are the same between fwd and awd.. its just the flywheel and backing plates that are different.

Literally blacked out- that and my first taste of "party in a pill" did me in.

Long story short- I was full blasted at a house party- and was rescued my Matt and crew to come Mod some time after midnight. With the help of a bump, Supra Vlad, Angry Matt, and Ben BMX- the car was ready to fire at 5am-only ti fond out the fuel tank I was given many moons ago had a dead pump-after that I threw in the towel. I continued to party-passed out-and woke up at 4pm dazed an confused

Big thanks to Super Modder Vlad, Matt, Serge and Ben for getting the car literally ready to fire Saturday night. We did what takes most people MONTHS, in less than a week on 10pm or later mod sessions. While most flap their gums behind computer screens-you boys were doing work.

I am hung over, and beat from a golf outing today-so we will replace that pump and see if she fires tomorrow.

Update of mas disappointment-

Did not make the shootout. First time I whiffed on a thrash, ever. After 2 turbo installs-I have come to the realization he turbo is toast. ZERO psi. Ridiculous. To get some miles on the motor-I tossed a 14b on it last night. Starter/clutch/and motor work well. After I have 100 or so miles on her and I am sure the motor is not going to come apart, its turbo time (again).

I was at least happy to drive the thing, all 250 HP of it. Pics of her together in a few

Yeah, I think the 17's are very much too big. This thing needs some 15's on it, with some meaty sidewall action.

How good does that stock fan work in front of that afco? I might give that a try also, slim fans just don't seem to have any ass to them.
