Post subject:  So I rolled my car...

Not what you think. I woke up a couple weeks ago and decided I wanted to paint my car. So I was going to take it to Maaco and get the special as I was tired of my roof looking like a moo-cow. So pretty much people has been rolling their cars with Rusto-leum. So I read a couple of threads and just started sanding. Then I figured while I was sanding and stuff, I could fix a few dents....I've never done body work either. So we (confusionisbad) picked up a can of Rusto-Leum from Wal-mart and some rollers and sand paper.

You can kind of see some of the damage on the rear 1/4 that was the worst of all the dents. There were a few more around the car.

After the body work comes the taping of the car off. Keep in mind I really don't care about a result, I just want my car all black again.

We rolled the hood first which I found out later that I was supposed to use mineral spirits to thin it out so it didn't come out as well as I would have liked it to.

Here is the repair job on the mid wing side.

Which ultimately fell off a bench and cracked right in the same damn spot

Here I am, losing the painting game.

More body work

I really like the roof which I was most concerned about. This is what it looked like on the very first coat.

This is moar of the first coat. The orange peel is supposed to be plentiful on the first coat then, you sand it down and repeat to get rid of it

I was going to paint the cladding but decided to go a diff route.

The painting has been really time consuming and with all the hours I've been working, I got impatient and just called it good. There will be wet sanding and buffing and it should shine up pretty nicely

BTW, I got new wheels and tires, jdm front bumper and mid wing. The camber should be fixed. It looks really bad now cause I haven't moved the car after taking it off the jack.

More pics to come soon. Does anyone have an idea of how to mount the side wings?

Wow that looks really good. You can use 3m double sided molding tape, just heat it up a little bit before you put it on so it will seal better. Btw I just moved to Aurora on Tuesday too.

For what you spent and it being your first time doing bodywork I say thumbs up. Black car with black wheels, brings back memories to my first csm love lol.

Ditto on the side pods for the midwing, my pass side one is cracked in the same spot, the drivers side was repaired with what appears to be fiberglass resin and has yet to crack again. Mine have a stud epoxied in the middle, not sure if factory or not, and the tip has a slot for a body clip. The inside metal work has a hole where you can put a socket through to tighten down the nut. Drilling the holes consisted of a lot of guesswork, a little measuring and ended up mostly as eyeballing it from the side and pushing down to get a mark (from the stud) for where to drill.

16x8 +25 offset. I had to stretch the tire though. So I'm on 205/45/16. The front sticks out more than I want them to though. I have to get the right parts up front. I even have the Yoshifab plates on there.
