Few pictures of my DD 92 Talon I put together. Outside of commuting to work, I'm planning to ice race the car once the lakes freeze over solidly in the non-studded tire class. (general altimax on 1gb talon wheels for winter duty)

parts list: wiseco 9:1 6 bolt +.020", stock rods, balanced, fresh cyl head, ARP head studs, FP2's, Crower springs, evo 3 16g, SBR exmani, ETS street core, homeade IC piping, homeade catch can setup, 255 pump, -6an feed, 660 denso's, aeromotive afpr, 2G MAF, dsmlink V3 lite, Xact/2600, 2.5" exhaust, Spal pusher fans, big brakes, ABS delete, braided lines, 4 bolt rear, NOS 99 GSX rims, etc...

This is not a show car by any means, but its not a rot-box either.
I kept stock suspension, made the exhaust quiet, mounted the gauges low, and kept it low-key.
There are new balljoints, bearings, brakes, sway links, anything rubber replaced, etc, etc, etc...I wanted to do it right.
The quiet exhaust may be a sign that I'm getting old, but overall I really like the combo; its a car you can tolerate driving for more than an hour.
In any event, its good to be behind the wheel of a modded AWD DSM once again. 8)

So funny, I'm gearing up to put a '90 GSX back together that is living in my garage. Just to DD...

Sure, there are paths of less resistance for obtaining a DD-beater.
But none of them bring the same level of joy+sorrow.
1990's are the best year, IMO. Thats where I caught the bug; my first one was a black/grey 90 TSi AWD.
Good luck with your build!

I'll put pics up. Not gonna be built at all; s16g, side mount, factory injectors and a 3 bolt LSD rear end. But it will be a good driver.

Wow thats clean but not a surprise coming from you. I would also like to build a "beater" 1g but to do rally cross in.

Did that fuel pump swap solve the issue you were having?

I like how this is just your daily beater, and it's cleaner than 99% of all 1g's that are still out there. I wouldn't expect anything less from ya, Paul! That thing looks great, and seems to be a very well-rounded driver. 1g's make great DD's!

Ahh 1gb talons, my favorite dsm's. If it was black and had the grey oem swirlies I'd really be jealous.

Great job either way and it looks like you scored a rust free one. I'd expect nothing less than the super clean engine bay and all maintenance up to date. And people say dsm's can't be daily drivers. My wife drove our 92 awd/auto for about 2 years with no issues.

Good to see you drop by too buddy.

Oh my, where to start!! Glad to see everyone, and even better to hear a post like this has motivational value! :D Thank you for all the compliments. I am glad to see the forum members I know, all have a set of car build expectations for me! Hilarous!
As for the car being too nice...I thought the same thing once I started getting close to finishing the project in November and I put on those gsx rims. But the reality is, the car has its fair share of anamolies. Namely, chips, dings, scratches, bottom of the core support a little crunched and a couple interior things which add character. (a true 1G) But it still cleans up pretty nice. Also, I have a wash-stall with a big floor drain in my garage which should help out keeping the body from getting eaten alive right away. As far as winter-proofing, I did prep/prime/paint a lot of the underbody stuff, also plenty of paintable undercoating followed by a coat of black enamel. I was missing a few pieces of fender plastic and I made some sheet polyethylene fender liners that seem to do a great job of keeping the rain/snow spray off the alt. belt and transmission.

mechacode- The fuel pump was the demon in the woodpile. Brand new wallbro 255; junk right out of the box. (made the pressure to work fine off-boost, but wouldn't supply the proper volume of fuel when it hit boost)
In turn, I was taking a bath in gasoline on a regular basis for a couple weeks (pull pump, check fuel sock, clean filter, swapping injectors, swapping FPR's) as I chased myself in circles trying to figure out a boost-prohibitive lean condition. In hindsight, I should've just rigged up a fuel pressure gauge on the hood for diagnosis right away.

maroon- I'm pretty sure 1/21/12 is the date for the widsm meet. I'll definetely be there, but I took off the gsx rims in favor of the oem swirlies with big burly snows on them.

Thanks again guys!! I still do check in over here occasionally. 8)

thanks Tim! Yes, a lot of salt and sometimes you see trucks spraying a liquid ice melt when the temps get really low.
