I bought a set of coils off of 89Mirageman a while back and while I HAD used them before I had never had a proper COP plate for them. I had been looking for quite some time for a decent plate but only found ones in excess of $100. Well I finally found a cheap one on Ebay but it was made to be used in conjunction with 3.5 300c coils. I went down to the mom and pop hardware store and got some threaded aluminum spacers and some stainless bolts and stop nuts. I drilled some new holes, mounted the coils, and got a little creative with the wiring by adding some red wire loom. Here is the end result. Tell me that doesnt look cool!

That COP setup looks really good! I was thinking about doing my own COP setup but I am no where near running out my stock coils, but once I upgrade my turbo and start making some more power I really want to do something like this. So what coils did you end up using? Also how much do you have in the setup?

If anyone is interested I have a couple more plates left for Intrepid Coils. I have all the required items to build another COP setup if anyone is interested in purchasing one pre-made.

I have a Cyclone intake manifold so the mounting for the stock coil pack was impossible. I always wanted to go with a COP because it makes the engine look more modern as well as cleans up the engine bay by not having to use plug wires and have a coil just lying there. Anyway, I bought the coils for $40 IIRC, the plate was $34 shipped, and I think I have about $8 in the spacers, nuts, and bolts. The wiring I just did myself. I think it turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. The coils are from a 2.7 Intrepid BTW. I really wanted the 300c coils because all I would have had to do for the plate is just get the hardware and I would've been set. But because the plate was meant to be used with 3.5 coils I had to redrill holes for the 2.7 ones. I really like the way they look and I think the engine idles smoother and the throttle response is alot more crisp with the COP setup. As soon as I get new rear struts (or I should say as soon as I get enough money) I'll be driving it to work and back everyday so I'll keep you updated on how well the engine responds as far as MPG.

Just for reference, there is an insanely detailed thread about COP going on over at galantvr4.org:

http://www.galantvr4.org/ubbthreads/sho ... =0&fpart=1

For those not signed up, I'm sure you can still see it; I hope.

Looks like they want to upgrade and also confirm whether the COP with Chrysler coils are worth their weight.

That thread has an insane amount of reading material. I want a cut and dry....plain and simple....wiring diagram to install a COP setup in the Mirage. Anyone have one? Would be much appreciated.

There isn't one, lol. IMO this is the best solution for a cop setup, sparktech makes really nice products.

I've purchased one already. Just can't find a solid wiring diagram to go by.

I can see if I can find you my old one. You have to know if they are 12v or 6v. Intrepid ones are 6v.

if they are 12v coils:
connect the yellow wire(sometimes different, refer to your ecu pinout 54 for real color) to the positive of #1&#4 coils.
connect the yellow&red wire(sometimes different, refer to your ecu pinout 55 for real color) to the positive of #2&#3 coils.
What ever wire left over is the ground(not the white wire, or any of the previous colors, might be black/white), connect this to the ground or negative side of all coils.(should be 4 wires to 1 ground wire)

if they are 6v coils:
connect the yellow wire(sometimes different, refer to your ecu pinout 54 for real color) to the positive of #1coil, then connect the negative of #1coil to the positive of the #4 coil .
connect the yellow wire&red wire(sometimes different, refer to your ecu pinout 55 for real color) to the positive of #2coil, then connect the negative of #2coil to the positive of the #3 coil .
What ever wire left over is the ground(not the white wire, or any of the previous colors, might be black/white), connect this to the ground or negative side of #4 and #3 coils.(should be 2 wires to 1 ground wire)
