Post subject:  Front Bumper Ideas

So I really hate the fact that a previous owner hacked the front bumper for a front mount intercooler and there are no previsions for a side mount intercooler in the stock bumper. There are few, if any, replacement bumpers that offer both good fit and good looks. Some members have put G20 front bumpers on the car and they look alright. At least one member has put an early Impreza bumper on the car and I think those look pretty good. The drawback to replacing the front bumper with one from another vehicle is that with any observant viewer, it will be obvious that it is out of place.

With this in mind and some body work in the future of my Colt, I figured I would see what an Impreza bumper might look like on my Colt. I was just messing around with Photoshop and a couple bad photos of the Impreza bumper and the front end of my Colt. I still need to figure out how to mold the plastic of the bumpers together. I was thinking fiberglass, but I don't think they would hold together well. Anyone have ideas on this? I would like to keep the stock body trim that wraps around the vehicle and use just the lower section of the Impreza bumper. You get the idea here:

I was thinking about piecing together some bumpers to get a decent look. I was thinking a bumper from an early 90's accord would look good, they kinda remind me of the jdm galant vr4 bumpers. I also agree about keeping the upper section of the csm bumper so that it still flows with the rest of the body.

Not sure if you've ever seen Coltsfan's car but he added the lower rear section of a 1g talon bumper using window weld and it looks nice. He said he just put a small piece behind for reinforcement and then filled the small cracks with a flexible body filler made for urethane bumpers. Honestly it looks like it came that way.

Here are some pics I found after a quick search. Not exact but similar I think.

I think with some work and a little bit of ingenuity it'll come out nice.

I think that when it's paint-matched, the G20 bumper will look like OEM, and it has vents for a SMIC on one side, and an oil cooler on the other:

I need to change my bumper. I was thinking just going to the GT look. I have the stock colt bumpers right now, the ugly rubber black ones. Has anyone tried to paint the rubber black bumpers? How did it turn out?

I really wanted to go the G20 bumper route but then I got the jdm front and completely forgot about it.

The G20 unit looks nice, but I don't think there will be enough room for a front mount in the future. I know the G20 should share common parts with other Nissan cars that may have some aftermarket support. Is this the same basic chassis as the Sentra? Maybe there are some other front ends that we can mix and match or buy in the aftermarket that would be better.

I would drop this whole idea if we could just get the JDM front end. That's the best option in my opinion, but they are too rare and expensive to make it worthwhile.

Doubt this would fit, but not a terrible look. Maybe a little ricey, but I'd have to see one in person to make an informed decision.

Someone modded an aftermarket integra bumper a while back that looked very similar to that one. Wish I could find the pics still.

There are a bunch of steps that you have to take to paint them properly as they are not primed. In all honesty it would be cheaper to buy new front and rear bumpers from an aftermarket place than to buy the correct stuff to prep your existing ones. I think I paid around $60 for my front bumper back when I painted my last colt. Either that or hit the junkyard and get some oem painted bumpers. Then all you have to do is clean them well and lightly scuff them for paint.

From what I've heard the stock bumper from a 93-95 toyota corolla is a perfect fit.... I forgot what site I was looking at but some corolla owners have installed the 89-91 JDM lancer bumper succesfully without any modification
