Well I've decided what color I want to paint the Colt and I already went and picked up the paint, clear, hardener, and reducer. I also got some misc things like a foam buff pad, compound, sand paper, bondo, glaze, an air filter (for the gun), and a bunch of other things. The paint is from a 2004 WRX and it's called Java Black Pearl. I've been wanting to paint one of my cars with this paint since I was probably 16. Anyway I went to the paint shop and they mixed me 2 quarts of each along with all my other stuff for $318.05. I'm currently doing some body work on it as there is a small amount of rust and slight imperfections (which everyone knows shows up x10 under some black paint) and the painting will commence on Tuesday followed by a color sand and buff the next day. Then my muffler will be in on Wednesday and I can get the exhaust fabbed up. But anyway this is a picture of the paint. Let me know what you think of it!

I think that color will look really nice on the CSM. Are you going to run some bronze colored rims as well? Those two would look nice together IMO. Take lots of pics and do it right. No sense in doing this unless you're willing to put in the time and do it right.

That color is sexy, it should look really good.

Getting the body work done...

Well, I knuckled down today and did my thang. Keep in mind I've never painted a car using a gun and lacquer before. You've all seen the before pics. Well here's the after.

There's still some waves and dents in it but I wasn't looking for a SEMA paintjob. This was done in a garage using cheap tools and a small air compressor...and ALOT of patience.

From what I can see it looks like a decent job for what you had to work with. A+ for a diy job well done. I would open the gas door and black it out with a spray can though.

Single stage correct? Or did you do base/clear?

Just a simple base and clear. It's a mixture of Jet Black, Gold Pearl, Yellow, and Blue. It's from a 2004 Sti. I'll let it dry and harden for the next couple of days and then I'll go back and fix the runs. Then it's wet sand and buff time.
Question Chris, when I wet sand it with the 1000, then the 1500, then buff with rubbing compound do I use a wool pad for the compound stage? Wouldn't that heat it up too much? I bought a foam pad for the glaze but shouldn't I use a foam pad for the compound too?

Looks like you still have some red left under the near the gas cap. Nice paint job!

Yeah, I plan on getting some more of that paint because I have to respray the hood with black and clear it still. I got the whole car done but not the hood because when I sprayed it it cracked at the front of it. When I spray it I'll mask the area surrounding it and spray inside the gas lid too. I just saw a buddy's thread here and I want to paint the inside gauge surround the same color as the car too. I also painted the valve cover, timing belt cover, and my spark plug cover the same color.

I'm interested in maybe doing a cheap DIY paint job in the near future. But I hate the old ugly trim. How hard is that to replace and can we still get it from Mitsu or an aftermarket supplier at a decent price?
