Let me honestly say that I don't know what I've been doing wasting my time with drag-racing for such a long time. Road-racing is SO much fun, despite the higher cost and the harder beating the car takes. I definitely need to get the Mirage out to this track ASAP and have some fun with it, I think it would do pretty well. For those of you wondering, the track is Willow Springs Raceway, Streets of Willow to be exact. I went up with a few friends and played photographer while they had fun racing, so here are some pics.

Taken at 6:30am

The desert at dawn is a seriously awesome place to be
Image

I really can't emphasize this enough...
Image

In love with this shot
Image

The dude who owned this car was really cool, he doesn't even keep track of his lap times, just goes out and runs his car and has fun
Image

My friend's '93 Civic Si powered by a mostly stock B16A, which was hanging with most all the EVO's racing that day
Image

Another buddy's '84 Volvo 242DL, megasquirt EMS, t3/t4, 1600's, runs on E85, stock motor
Image

A very quick Miata
Image

Another friend's '72 BMW 2002tii, converted to EFI using megasquirt with ITB's and a built motor
Image

'94 GSX, 2.3 stroker, FP3065, EMS, 520whp @ 21psi on E85. Blew up his 4th gear on the 2nd session out, was a TRE trans too
Image

My boy's Volvo hauling ass
Image

The wing looks silly, but this car was fast-as-balls on the track
Image

Mmm, me likey
Image

295 race tires all around, lots of suspension work = fast car
Image

E46 M3 racing on the adjacent track, Big Willow
Image

The sound this was making, well, it made me feel funny down below
Image

Downforce is a good thing, right?
Image

Hauling ass in the Bimmer
Image

VEEEEEEEEEEEETEC!!!
Image

My buddy letting someone else drive his Civic
Image

Radical? No, that's what kind of car it is--I think
Image

Image

My boy had a little too much fun in his Volvo, blew the turbo
Image

This car was really loud, like, really really loud
Image

Bad-ass Datsun racing the big track
Image

I love hardtop Miatas

DO you have any more pictures of the Volvo? I am a huge fan of the 240 and 740 volvos. I almost got one before I picked up my mirage. I had gone through two dsms and a galant and wanted a change. While I am glad I came back and picked up two C53's and another laser, I still developed a soft spot for volvos.

As many pictures as you can get or have would be awesome.

What for? It's just a Volvo. He used all the factory red-motor turbo stuff to turbocharge it, custom-fabbed IC pipes, stock Volvo FMIC. It's really nothing special to look at.

Yup, that's Scot Gray's car. It's been in SCC a few times, was in the Ultimate Street Car Challenge one year also, and almost won. He still owns the car, although it's looking a lot more beat these days.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. 8)
