Mirage Turbo/Colt GT

This was posted on the gvr4 board a while back, sounds like a spoiled brat kid and his rich dad.

OMG!!! sounds just like my dad the first time he went for a ride in my 89 LOL

My dad wouldn't be able to handle it...lol Good one Rich.

Whenever I take my Dad for a ride in my car(s) he always tries to get me to beat on it harder. I'll do a 2nd-gear pull and he's like "come on man, wind it out through 3rd!"

I just stumbled across this looking at old posts. I wish I had a video of my dad going for a ride in my Colt back the first year I had it FWD.

He informed me when I was visiting them that the next day I might pass my brother on the way back from were I was staying.

Dad "you should see your brother on the highway on your way back tomarow"
Me "sweet, if I see him I'll do a nice 100mph burnout past him"
Dad "yeah...sure, I don't think so"
Me "huh?!?"
Dad "I don't think any car can spin the tires at those speeds"
Me "yeah your right, it starts to get traction around 90mph"
Dad "I don't think it is that fast"
Me "wanna see for yourself?"

So I took him out for a cruise around the country roads around Dayton Ohio. Rolled into the throttle in third gear and ripped the tires off it all the way through third and into fourth. My dad was hanging on for dear life and making the same type noises and words in the video above.

Then we get back to a reasonable speed and he looks over at me and says in a very reluctant vice "Do you think... Do you think I can drive it" I was like "HELL YEAH!!"
So I got him in the car and assured him he could not do anything to the car that I had not already done and not to worry about breaking it.
He told me that he was not that worried as it felt a lot like the (get this lol) 94ish Twin turbo 300z he drove.. I chuckled knowing my Colt has twice the power and half the wieght.

He eased into the throttle in second gear and immediatly the tires started spinning and screaming for dear life. He jumped off the throttle. After 4 or 5 times of him trying to stay into the throttle in boost he finally gave up and said the car was just to fast for him..
I said "What about the 300Z?" He just laughed and siad.. "what 300Z?"

I wish I could tell the story as good as a video can, but it was still a awsome moment in my life to see my dad giggling like a school girl from all the adrenalin from a 60-130 pull.

I know PTTcolt has a similair story with his dad.. I love to hear his dad talk about it.

My dad wont even get into any of my cars and the last time he did I had an 1986 CRX with an LSVTEC and an 80 shot direct which was like 10-11 years ago. Even my Galant VR4 he tells me fuck that shit Im not getting in there and I just let him believe its fast.

My parents have never been in my car since I 61T'd it. My grandmother has, but I didn't have the heart to hit boost with her in it hahaha. The only similar experience I can tell of is when I had to take my 14 year old sister somewhere a while back (her first time in a turbo'd car). Gave it a quick 1st-3rd gear 10psi squirt up a steep hill. It was hilarious watching her head snap back and hit the seat as the car hit boost when we got to the top she said "i've NEVER gone up that hill THAT fast!". God only knows what her reaction would've been if I was running 20psi.... I can barely feel the 'kick' at 10psi....

Also my poor flatmate, who is used to the 'power' of his 1000cc Mini. I wound it right out in 2nd and 3rd at 20psi on a motorway on-ramp the other day. Acceleration-wise compared to the Mini, it pretty much felt like we were traveling through time Hit 20psi in 2nd going around an easy corner (the joys of 4WD and good tyres) and he muttered a simple "JESUS!" while hanging on for his life, grabbed a piece of 3rd and wound it out "DAMN this thing gets to 140 fast!"

I don't even think its that quick...... but everyone else seems to....

Thats a great "fucking-son-of-a-bitch" video. My dad would have been like "ok....its fast but cars are only good to get you from point a to point b". Then I hear him in the morning hopping in the backup-Talon (90 TSI, B16G ≈ 300 HP) and about 20 feet down the little dirt road I hear it open up to 22PSI. I'm like "Dad, at least let it warm up before you go pounding on it!" and he's like "Seth, I didn't even really get on it". Yeah...

Anyway, great video!

I let my Dad drive my first DSM, which was a '94 TSi AWD. At the time it was barely modded, had a full 3" TBE, K&N, and maybe a boost controller. I think the car was running low 14's in the 1/4 mile, which was pretty damn fast for a 19 year-old kid at that time. I also had an ACT 2100 and JUN flywheel in the car, so I was worried that my Dad would stall it out everywhere. Amazingly enough, he didn't. He gets on it in 1st gear, and the thing almost immediately hits the rev limiter, and he just stays in it and lets it bounce off the rev limiter for a while. I'm like "DAD! Shift!" He's like, "oh that wasn't me, that was the engine doing that." I'm like "I know, ya see that red part of the tach? When the needle gets there you need to shift."

i took my dad for a ride in my colt at 22 psi (it'll spin em through 4th on clean concrete) he giggle a little coming through second and said ok, OK, OK!!! thats enough!! just as soon a boost came on in 3rd and broke the tires loose again. i was kinda disapointed, i was hoping he wanted me to round up through 4th, but he is getting old and "safe" in his later years.

When I bought my 95 Eagle Talon AWD he didn't want me to buy it because me and him took it on a test drive and he said "if I had a car like this when I was a kid, I would have smoke everyone with it",lol. I begged him for weeks to get that car and finally I got it, I still have the car but the 7 bolt crankwalked at 57k so I'm putting a 6 bolt this year,lol.

Now the FWD experience was funnier, when I got the hyundai excel done, my friend micky is a cool honda guy which he likes my mitsubuishi projects I build. Anyways, I see him at wendy's and tell him let's go for a ride in my car.

Micky- " what you got?",

Me- "I'm driving a hyundai now"

Micky- laughed and said " why would I want to go in a hyundai for?"

Me- "Come on it will be fun",lol.

Micky- "Dude you got something up your sleve",lol

Me - I giggled and said " Come on, it's only a hyundai",lol.

Micky - "ok I guess"

Going down the road in second and rip the hell out of the 13s (which they were the stock hyundai wheels and those were the only 4 lug wheels I had at that time) and then the bov set off and this is what he said:

Micky- "WTF?" "this thing is turbo?"

Me - "yeah but that's not all it is though",lol.

Micky - ? "WTF are you talking about"?

Me - "I'll show you",lol.

I pulled over into a empty parking lot and opened the hood.

Me - " what you think?"

Micky - "Where did you get the turbo kit from"

Me - "huh?" "turbo kit, no that's a stock turbo"

He had no clue what I was talking about until I told him that it was a 2.0 turbo mitsubishi engine and he said:

Micky - " HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!" as he shooked my hand for credit of the swap

Me - Hahahaha

Micky - " I'm so glad that you showed me this because I would have got mad getting beat by a old ass hyundai",lol.

Me- Hahhaha (still laughing)

Micky - " was that full throttle?"

Me - "Nope I barely hit the gas and it's on 10psi"

Micky - "WTF!!!!!" "Are you serious?"

Me - " yeah on the way back to wendy's I'll get on it to the floor",lol.

Going back, I put it to the floor and barely keeping it on the road and he was just amazed how much the car pulled. Also he was shocked that I did that swap to a hyundai and he said that he never think to say that a hyundai was fast,lol.

This is my best FWD experience with someone in the car with me,lol.
