More like a quick overview of 15 years of my life. I did the v8 thing in the day including a BB Chevelle, Mustang Mach1 and a v8 4x4 ranger. Then it all went and I did the marriage, house and kids thing. On a bet I built the Escort and got hooked on turbo's now back to the story.

At this point I knew that I was not going to get 300+HP on a budget build and did not want to re-do the whole build. I decided to throw a set of pistons and a rebuilt head and down the road it went. With a goal of 300+ and really liking the Escort I found a Escort that was 2 years newer and it was white. I don't know why I like white vehicles soooo much but I bought it.

Its crazy I remember seeing these cars were everywhere in the late nineties, and now they all but have vanished. I can't even remeber the last time I saw a Escort let alone a GT or EXP. I know some cars don't hold up well over time but these are a rare sight anymore.

They are all gone here too.

SO I knew I wanted 300+ from this build and knew these engines were not built for performance so I sent the crank out to have cryo-hardened, balanced and polished, I had custom Kunningham h-beam rods and JE pistons.

On the 84 Escort I had issues with the clutch holding. The original clutch is tiny, If I remember correctly it was 6". I wanted a clutch I could rely on so I bought a Fidanza flywheel for a Thunderbird Turbocoupe which is a 9" clutch. I had it balanced neutrally since the escort is internally balanced. All the flywheel bolts lined up except for the offset bolt since the Turbocoupe 2.3 was externally balanced. I had the one bolt hole machined to match the pattern on my crank. I then had to make a custom throw out bearing and fly cut some of the transmission inside the bellhousing to accept the larger clutch. I also put new blocker rings (syncro's) in and put a Phantom grip posi (hope it works).

Can't take winter anymore. When I posted the picture above this morning I looked outside and the snow was almost up to the bottom of my windows. After doing my 700+ foot driveway, my mom (she's 81) my inlaw's driveway I sat back down and felt like the snow was creeping into my personal space. Kind of like snow claustrophobic if there is such a thing. Could not take it so I fired up the snow blower and then the backhoe and cleared all the snow from around my house. I then did the whole front yard, then I did the roof (2 story) AND I fell better now. When I did the snow near the house with the snow blower and went back into the house the kids said I made a moat. There was about 3 feet of snow in the yard......man I hate winter!!!!

Stay safe.

Great job on the build, loving the use of color.

Getting rid of the winter blues by means of building something, is just how some of us prefer to get through winter!

So I continue on my story. I was not loving the top mount so I sold it FEOA and bought a EVO manifold and remade the flange. Here I was sanding the flange flat.

shitty about the orginal engine! New build looks good!

Start with low timing (retard the distributers base timing) so that you can start getting the boost and fuel dialed in, then slowly add timing after you get boost and fuel figured out.

Does the turbo coupe ECU have any aftermarket tuning options, or are you just using stock engine management with a rising rate FPR now? Would a XR4Ti ECU work? Is there a knock sensor at all in the electronics? What do you use to detect detionation? (maybe a set of "maki spec" knock ears would be in order)

Grey escort was sold at this point. I bought a Holley Commander 950 stand alone for this build.
