Ok, so I have this black 1978 Plymouth Arrow GT. The existing 1.6 G32B engine runs quite well all things considered, but doubling the existing power would be quite a kick. My question is would a 4g61 or 4g63 bolt to the existing 5 speed?

The extensive wiring needed to accomplish the swap doesn't bother me, but if it won't bolt to the tranny I don't think I'll bother.

Thanks!

Joshua Skinner

:(

Ok, I was looking at some 4G63T pictures and see that the cooling water outlet is on the transmission (rear for RWD vehicles) end of the cylinder head. The outlet on the current engine is built into the intake manifold near the front of the engine. Can anyone point me to some detailed 4g63 pictures? I'm having trouble finding good cylinder head detail shots.

Thanks!

Ok so you cut the firewall to clear the thermostat housing. I'll look into the thermostat relocation for mine. The Plymouth Arrow I have is a 5 speed and the 1.6 got the same 5 speed as the 2 liter Arrows and the Arrow car 2 liter is the same as the Arrow/D50 pickup engine so my tranny might work. If not I'll get a later pickup tranny. I'll have to get the 2 liter engine brackets (and radiator), but that's easy. Now for a 4G63T parts car...

P.S. You ground radio? I was USAF Satcom '94-'98

Another question. Would the Mitsubishi Mirage Turbo ('85-'88) G32B exhaust manifold bolt up to the existing Plymouth Arrow G32B? I think I'll seek one out and go turbo that way before I spend the bucks on a 4G63 swap.

No reason why it shouldn't, as long as you lower the compression as well. Not a good idea to run a turbo with the standard compression ratio.

I've just stripped the 32B turbo out of my car, as the block was cracked. shame you'r not in Scotland!

Hey, I'm just across the bridge in Vancouver, If you want to maybe get rid of the Arrow in the future let me know I've been looking all over for a Arrow or Old RWD Colt to work on.

I've been looking for some thing beside my FWD colt to fool around with lately Just email me at My Aol addess.

Thanks

Tom Hartshorn

yes it will. It has a 6 bolt flywheel too. If I remember right you can use AWD pressure plate for that extra bite.

okay, here you go....

The 4g63t will bolt to the tranny that you have, but you should use the fwd flywheel. a decent fwd clutch will give you more than enough bite to spin the tires all the way through the gears.

The g32b turbo exhaust manifold, and turbo will bolt up, but if it was me, I'd try to get the whole system, head, intake, exhaust, sensors, and wiring, computer etc. in fact, just try to find a complete g32b motor, or better yet, a donor vehicle. you will have to use your starter though, and rear engine cover plate, as the fwd versions are different.

A big problem with the truck transmissions that you mentioned earlier is that in the rwd stuff, mits decided that the engines mated to manual transmissions should be a little stronger, so in '81, I believe, they changed the width of their bolt patterns, and engine blocks for rwd manual trans models. The old bolt patterns was 12.5" the new is 13.5" so a rwd g63b motor that was mated to a manual trans is an inch wider than a 4g63t motor mated to a fwd trans, whether manual or auto! and the rwd auto transmissions are 12.5" just to comlplicate things. :)

This info is good for the U.S. and may not apply to elsewhere.

I have the whole system, but me being the the UK means it's not much good to you.

Everything apart from the block itself.
